However, the abnormal tumor microenvironment (TME) featured with hypoxia, acidosis, and dense extracellular matrix is found to be related with the resistance of tumors to RT. Herein, intelligent bovine serum albumin (BSA)-coated Bi2S3 and MnO<sub>2</sub> (Bi<sub>2</sub>S<sub>3</sub>-MnO<sub>2</sub>) nanocomposites synthesized by biomineralization are capable of modulating hypoxic TME effectively to enhance the efficacy of RT. After intravenous injection, the BSA-Bi<sub>2</sub>S<sub>3</sub>-MnO<sub>2</sub> nanocomposites show efficient accumulation in tumor where endogenous H<sub>2</sub>O<sub>2</sub> could be reacted with MnO<sub>2</sub> to generate oxygen in-situ, leading to increased tumor oxygenation to overcome the hypoxia-associated resistance for RT. Moreover, the photothermal effect induced by BSA-Bi<sub>2</sub>S<sub>3</sub>-MnO<sub>2</sub> nanocomposites further relieves the hypoxia in TME and finally synergistically improves RT effect. In this work, we present a simple strategy to fabricate intelligent therapeutic nanoparticles for improving therapeutic efficiency in cervical cancer.","PeriodicalId":431131,"journal":{"name":"PharmSciRN: Pharmaceutical Nanotechnology (Topic)","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-02-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126696633","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
