Furthermore, system design tools have mostly been applied to the later phases of the design cycle. The paper presents a quantitative basis for the high-level design of digital systems in the form of probabilistic and simulation models and several performance measures. These tools form a major part of an overall system design methodology which has been valuable in the design, optimisation and evaluation of large-scale digital systems. The application of the modelling tools to the design of a distributed processing system is demonstrated. Validation of the results by simulation reveal an average error of less than 3% for this example.","PeriodicalId":430139,"journal":{"name":"Software & Microsystems","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1984-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115289553","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The algorithm is shown to yield a remarkable reduction in diagnosis and reconfiguration time compared with other techniques. The application of this technique to large microcomputer architectures is described and simulation results are presented.","PeriodicalId":430139,"journal":{"name":"Software & Microsystems","volume":"79 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1984-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116098921","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The disadvantages of this lack of support are discussed and a solution is presented, in the form of a pseudo-emulation facility, which provides many of the features normally associated with in-circuit emulation. Development of a special-purpose interface circuit, allowing communication between the FDS-10 and the target hardware and software, is described and details are given of the monitor program which runs in the FDS-10 and which controls the hardware via the interface.","PeriodicalId":430139,"journal":{"name":"Software & Microsystems","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1984-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114133945","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
