These systems are important building blocks and are useful for constructing efficient protocols for client - server systems, transaction processing, web applications, and scientific computing [5,11]. Distributed mobile systems are not fault tolerant. They introduce new challenges in the area of fault tolerant computing. The vast computing potential of these systems is often hampered by their susceptibility to failures. Mobile computing highlights many issues, such as lower throughput and latency, low bandwidth of wireless channels, lack of stable storage on mobile hosts, connection breakdowns and inadequate battery life that make the classical check-pointing protocols incongruous. Many techniques like group communication, transactions and rollback recovery have been developed to add reliability to such systems [12]. This paper surveys the algorithms which will restore the system back to a consistent state after a failure.","PeriodicalId":429916,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Computing Sciences","volume":"95 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-09-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114690198","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The dynamic nature of resources on grids raises the question of an efficient scheduling process, which mainly consist of resource selection and allocation. In grid, users defined their job requirements and compete to access the most efficient and cheapest resources. Traditional resource management systems do not take into account individual requirement and interests. Economics inspired models have shown to efficiently allocate resources and services, scaling up well as they are decentralized. The current research work aims to develop a grid resource allocation method based on market model that makes optimum allocation of resources among the users so as to minimize the user spending and maximize the throughput.","PeriodicalId":429916,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Computing Sciences","volume":"85 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-09-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126316739","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To provide high QoS, handover efficiency is an important factor. In 802.11, Access Points (APs) are connected on different channels to avoid interference from neighboring APs. To successfully complete handover process, Mobile Node (MN) has to scan all channels which introduce high delays in handover process. Larger portions of delay in handover are due to scanning only. So, handover delays can be reduced by reducing scanning delays In this paper, we propose a new approach to reduce handover delay by reducing scanning delay. Our approach basically relies on the fact that APs which are nearer to MN should provide higher Signal Strength. In our approach, Media Independent Information Service (MIIS) Server stores the channel numbers on which APs are connected and the coordinates at where APs are placed. MN acquires this information from MIIS. MN calculates its own coordinates. Based on these coordinates MN will decide which AP to scan next. Here, MN may scan only one channel which reduces scanning delay greatly.","PeriodicalId":429916,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Computing Sciences","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-09-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131140456","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Today, the design of packet radios and protocols for wireless ad hoc networks are primarily based on common-range transmission control. In this paper, we have analyzed some of the widely used routing protocols with varying transmission range, mobility speed and number of nodes. Data transmitted by a node is received by all the nodes within its communication range. We focus on the analysis of varying a range of the transmission in terms of distance, mobility speed and number of nodes in the network. The proposed work has been simulated using NS-2.34. The performance metrics comprises of QoS parameters such as packet delivery ratio, end to end delay, routing overhead and throughput.","PeriodicalId":429916,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Computing Sciences","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-09-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122048241","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The problem of retrieving the desired images from huge collections is a major problem. The user queries are becoming very specific and traditional text-based methods cannot efficiently handle them. The subjectivity of human perception and the rich contents of the images further aggravate the problem. To overcome this problem, a new query-by-example technique using multiple color, texture and shape features is proposed and evaluated in this paper. The experimental results suggest that our proposed technique is efficient and retrieves semantically more similar images.","PeriodicalId":429916,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Computing Sciences","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-09-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127454073","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
