The Blue Book China Education Development Report (2014) announced by the Social Sciences Documentation Publishing House and Institute of 21st Century Education in May 2014, collecting 79 cases of suicide of primary and secondary school occurred in 2013. What’s more,there are many cases happened in 2014, such as the “September 26” murder case of Guangxi province, causing 3 deaths and one injury; The “September 26” stampede case of Yunnan, causing 6deaths and 26 injury; The “April 11” Elementary jump off event of Purple Tea House and “June 23” face-hitting to die event of Guangdong; The jumping event in Chongqing of a primary girl in May; And the “May 23” Nai xi Village pupils’ mass brawl event of Beijing. The above cases are all occurred in 2014. The frequent occurrence of the stampede and suicide, have beening causing the community’s attention. Udofia","doi":"10.3968/6398","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.3968/6398","url":null,"abstract":"A comparative study on the impact of oil pollution on water quality in both the oil and non - oil bearing communities of Ibeno and Mbo respectively was conducted. The mean concentration of Pb, (0.20 mg/l) Cd (0.1 mg/l), Cr (0.10 mg/l) and Ni (<0.10 mg/l) were above the WHO recommended limits of 0.05 mg/l, (Pb) 0.005 mg/l (Cd), 0.05 mg/l (Cr) and 0.02 mg/l (Ni) for drinking and domestic water quality. The physicochemical properties in both oil (incident zone and non-oil (control zone) trialed below standards. The mean Ph (5.41) for incident zone and Ph (4.73) for control zone were below the recommended range of 6.5-8.5. BOD varied between 0.5 to 20 mg/l in the incident zone and 0.50 mg/l in the control zone. The Do ranged from 2.7 mg/l to 11.6 mg/l in the incident zone and a mean concentration of 6.4mg/l in the control zone whereas WHO (1993) recommended level is 5 mg/l. Turbidity was higher in all samples above WHO recommended level of 5NTU. The mean values for hydrocarbons (range between <0.003-0.004 mg/l for BTEX were generally below some local and international standards (0.01 mg/l for benzene, 0.7 mg/l for toluene). Culture creates a mirror of the world by constituting layers of discursive connection in which we are all immersed and which engender lived human experience. Lacan uses “the mirror phase” to unravel the development of human identity and self-conception and locate in it many roots for the psychological characteristics seen in adult life. When the mirror crack’d from side to side for the lady of Shallot, her world began to unravel. A post-colonial setting fractures the indigenous mirror of life such that the broken image is at the heart of the alienation that results has damaging effects on the moral being of those belonging to a colonised culture as they try to articulate their lived experience. The fracture disconnects meanings, myths of origin and destiny, cultural icons and the discourses in which connections to place are affirmed by treating them as unreal and irrelevant to modern life. Colonisation is therefore potentially destructive to identity, self-worth, and the moral being of a colonised people because connections between self-worth and the roots of being have been disrupted in ways that are difficult to articulate.
