These PDEs closely resemble their Euclidean counterparts, except that the problem domains change from bulk regions with a flat geometry of some surfaces, on which curvatures play an important role in the physical processes. First, we present a formulation to solve surface PDEs in a narrow band domain containing the surface. This class of numerical methods is known as the embedding types. Next, we present another formulation that works solely on the surface, which is commonly referred to as the intrinsic approach. Convergent estimates and numerical examples for both formulations will be given. For the latter, we solve both the linear and nonlinear time-dependent parabolic equations on static and moving surfaces. state. In Fig. 3, we show the steady-state solutions of (20) with two different sets of parameters ( α, β, τ 1 , τ 2 ) ; one for a spot pattern and the other for It is convincing that our method is a robust alternative for pattern formation problems. Here, requirements for numerical magnetic field computations are that the methods are precise and mainly robust in the sense of reliable results. Non-linear magnetic materials, induced eddy currents, and the infinite surrounding air domain must be accurately considered in the numerical model. To this end, a smart combination of the finite element method (FEM) with the boundary element method (BEM) including a powerful post-processing is proposed with a focus on the region of interest (ROI), which contains the studied sample. Separate BEM domains are defined for the infinite surrounding air domain and the ROI. Then, the computational costs are reduced due to the relatively small number of relevant boundary elements of the surface of the ROI and a precise and efficient evaluation of magnetic fields based on a meshfree BEM post-processing in the ROI is possible. As an example, the numerical formulation, the application of the proposed approach, and numerical results are shown for the homogeneous field of a permanent magnet.","PeriodicalId":429597,"journal":{"name":"Boundary Elements and other Mesh Reduction Methods XLII","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124573961","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The inverse analysis is performed through an optimization process having as restrictions the information obtained from a direct analysis, representing data which could be obtained from surface monitoring of pipelines. Thus, the numerical models comprehend the solution of two problems: the direct one in which the boundary element method (BEM) is used to obtain the displacements and tractions in the structure, and the inverse problem, in which two optimization models were implemented. The first approach uses the genetic algorithm (GA) method associated with the BEM (GA-BEM), minimizing the residuals between the calculated and the “monitored” relative surface displacements. The second approach is a hybrid method (HM) in which the GA is associated with the Newton–Raphson method for performing the inverse analysis with the BEM (HM-BEM). All tests demonstrated the efficiency of the numerical tools for structural inverse analysis, with the HM approach showing lower computational cost and better accuracy.","PeriodicalId":429597,"journal":{"name":"Boundary Elements and other Mesh Reduction Methods XLII","volume":"353 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115921109","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
