This article focuses on a romance of chivalry by Mambrino Roseo da Fabriano, Sferamundi of Greece (Venice, Tramezzino 1558-1565) which includes in its pages an authentic Byzantine novel inspired in Eliodoro’s Ethiopicas . The fervent literary environment of the Venetian printing press in which the book was published is also studied in relation to the spread of the Greek novel in Italy, the same context that encouraged Alonso Núñez de Reinoso in the publication of his Historia de los amores de Clareo y Florisea , Venice, Giolito, 1552. Contrary to a diffused academic assumption, the Byzantine genre was not opposed to the chivalric. In Roseo’s novel (as in Reinoso’s) the Byzantine and the chivalric genres work together and show common narrative forms in their different declinations and hybridisations.","PeriodicalId":42908,"journal":{"name":"Hipogrifo-Revista de literatura y cultura del Siglo de Oro","volume":"87 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78642790","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We analyse the little-known work by Gonzalo Fernández de Oviedo, Batallas y quinquagenas , and more specifically what has been published (namely, 132 dialogues), almost all of which refer to the second battle. In this, he deals with cases of nobles whose lives ended disastrously or who had the saddest of desti-nies. We study the form of the dialogue, the influence of Erasmus, and the relationship between this work and the Historia general y natural de las Indias , the differences in tone between one and the other, the most striking narrative resources and","PeriodicalId":42908,"journal":{"name":"Hipogrifo-Revista de literatura y cultura del Siglo de Oro","volume":"48 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72514465","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article examines the chap-book of the comedia La gran Torre del Orbe (Biblioteca Nacional de España, signatura T/55329/4), from the material bibliography and the typographic examination, in order to propose a place, a date and a possible printer of origin. These results are then applied to two other chap-book without editorial data that have similarities in typography, in the layout of the title page and in the use of the same final woodblock: the chap-book of Los hermanos más amantes and the chap-book S of the well-known La dama boba . Their analysis leads, on one hand, to consider them to be part of the same publishing family and, on the other, to establish a proposal of place, date and printing house.","PeriodicalId":42908,"journal":{"name":"Hipogrifo-Revista de literatura y cultura del Siglo de Oro","volume":"30 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74648186","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper tries to identify the presence of Teatro de los dioses de la gentilidad , by the mytographer Baltasar de Vitoria, in the composition of the mytho-logical plays from the Portuguese playwright António José da Silva, The Jew. There are three aspects which bring us to recognize this hypothesis: a) there is a space-time coincidence, as Vitoria’s text had wide circulation in the Iberian Peninsula in the 17 th -18 th centuries; b) there is a material coincidence, as we can find almost all mythological narratives used by The Jew in his plays at the Firs Part of Vitoria’s work; and c) there is a thematic coincidence, as they both tell certain myths in an unusual similar way. Thereby, after demonstrating several convergence points be-tween both authors in these three aspects, we came to the conclusion that it would be probable that António José da Silva have had access to Baltasar de Vitoria’s work and also that he had used it to compose his plays.","PeriodicalId":42908,"journal":{"name":"Hipogrifo-Revista de literatura y cultura del Siglo de Oro","volume":"68 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76117240","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The present work claims to offer a bibliographical contribution to the work of Álvaro Cubillo de Aragón resulting from the ISTAE project ( Impresos sueltos del teatro antiguo español/ Separate printouts of old Spanish theatre ) whose main objective is to create a database that gathers, describes analytically and identifies the separate printouts published between the years 1600 and 1834 that host texts of Spanish theatre during the Golden Age.
