IEEE 802.15.4 is a popular choice for MAC/PHY protocols used in WSNs. Therefore, it is imperative to evaluate its performance. In this paper, we will analyze the performance of the IEEE 802.15.4 standard operating in non-beaconed mode. Extensive simulations have been done to examine how the network performance in terms of metrics such as latency and packet loss rate will be impacted by some key parameters. The results are presented and analyzed. The paper extends the earlier presented approaches of building sustainable logistics system that support ridesharing by applying to it principles of smart spaces, where various electronic devices can seamlessly access all required information distributed in the multi-device system and all services are provided in pro-active manner. In particular, the paper describes the ontology and major components for the ridesharing system. Unlike the close Telematics service discovery system provided by car manufacturers, the proposed C-TP2P is a novel and open framework using the P2P-like paradigm based on our somecast protocol. When a user needs a service on the road, two issues that need to be considered for Telematics service discovery are (1) how to have the candidate list of service providers and (2) how to select suitable service providers from the candidate list. Two main protocols that are proposed in the proposed open framework include the vehicular P2P messaging protocol and the somecast protocol. The vehicular P2P messaging protocol provides the communication mechanism for Telematics service discovery among Telematics central server, users and service providers using our proposed Telematics Service Markup Language (TSML). The proposed service discovery protocol using the somecast protocol consists of service provider search phase, service provider selection phase and service provider subscription phase to achieve service discovery. These kinds of networks are facing many challenges mainly due to limited resources. Indeed, routing protocols are one of the greatest challenges in this domain. Several 3D (Three Dimensions) routing protocols in real environment have been proposed for wireless sensor networks. Some are based on partial or full flooding schemes which consume more energy and incur higher communication overhead, or counted on construction or partition of cubes, convex hulls or Delaunay triangulations where their constructor are relatively complicated and additional cost could be required. In this paper, we present a simple efficient geographical 3D routing algorithm, efficient subminimal Ellipsoid geographical Greedy-Face 3D Routing (EGF3D). The algorithm is based on Greedy and Face routing strategies which are restricted in one subminimal ellipsoid fixed by three points: the forwarding endpoint node, the destination endpoint node and the subminimal angle neighbor in the favorable forwarding direction. We evaluate our approach and compare with the current routing algorithms in this domain. The first step is the engineering process (the cellular planning to be more accurately) in which the number of base stations needed to provide coverage and to ensure the quality of service in a given environment (rural, suburban or urban) is calculated through mathematical models. Following the engineering process, and with the appropriate financial variables (ARPU - Average Revenue Per User, desired return, OPEX, etc.) defined, the NPV (Net Present Value) is computed for a maximum of seven years and for four scenarios, thus providing the cost/benefit result of the study. The dimension of these networks is divided into two components, the bandwidth dimensioning and the hardware dimensioning. This paper will present a new method for the dimensioning of required bandwidth (since the bandwidth is shared among all the users in the network, it is important to know the mean user throughput) and it proves that in order to make the hardware dimension of the network in a certain region (not only the equipment itself but also the total km of fiber used) the operator only need to know some basic characteristics of the network itself, such as total area of the region, total population of the region, households and percentage of houses covered by fiber installation.
