The research distinguished three groups of organic farmers: committed, pragmatic, and pragmatic-involved, and then determined the differences and similarities of these groups concerning the identified problems and limitations in the development of organic farming and the assessment of support policy. In this study used qualitative survey methods conducted among 154 organic farms. The research results found that although farmers are interested in producing products using organic methods, they encounter significant difficulties: agrotechnical (related to weed infestation of agricultural fields), institutional, and market difficulties. The research has proven that the group of pragmatic farmers differs from the engaged and pragmatic-involved groups in terms of motives, as well as in the assessment of agricultural policy and the problems of developing organic farming. At the level of agricultural policy, there is a need to increase institutional and legal efficiency and establish a long-term strategy for developing organic agriculture. This study can be used to design a more effective policy for the growth of organic agriculture by public administration entities involved in its implementation.","PeriodicalId":428531,"journal":{"name":"Annals of the Polish Association of Agricultural and Agribusiness Economists","volume":"18 11","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138601837","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We classified and codified those studies to describe all of the contributions and to present the future prospects of neuroeconomics in the field of agriculture and food economics. A systematic literature review was carried out for this study to consolidate all of the relevant studies in one place. With the use of IEEE Xplore, Wiley Online Library, Taylor & Francis, Elsevier, Scopus and Sage, 190 records were identified and after a full text examination, 18 articles were selected for final review. Three major thematic areas viz: focus, method and field of study were identified and sub-classified into further classifications. In this systematic review, there were substantial evidence of the use of neuro tools such as the Eye Tracker (ET) and the electroencephalogram (EEG) in the field of agriculture and food economics. However, their application is still rare, creating significant opportunities for further research development in this direction.","PeriodicalId":428531,"journal":{"name":"Annals of the Polish Association of Agricultural and Agribusiness Economists","volume":"72 25","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138604632","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main aim of the research was to identify and characterize the implemented innovations and methods of managing them on farms. The research was carried out on the basis of an original survey questionnaire addressed to 80 owners of farms from the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship. The research was carried out between June and November 2020. Research results have shown that innovations in agriculture are implemented mainly for economic reasons. Important reasons for these activities are the desire to achieve higher income, farm development, increase in efficiency and decrease in labor intensity. The most frequently indicated external barriers when trying to implement innovations were difficulties in obtaining the necessary funds, and internal ones: fear of failure and insufficient level of own funds. After implementing the innovation, farmers observed an increase in production capacity and a decrease in labor intensity. Thanks to innovations, many respondents were able to expand the area of their operations and influence the development of their farms.","PeriodicalId":428531,"journal":{"name":"Annals of the Polish Association of Agricultural and Agribusiness Economists","volume":"41 22","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138602384","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The subject of the study was a comparative analysis for two variants, i.e. 1) reference (photovoltaic installation only) and 2) hybrid (supported by energy storage). The Levelized Costs of Electricity (LCOE), Net Present Value (NPV) and Dynamic Pay Back Time (DPBT) methods were used to evaluate it. The object of the study was a dairy farm, where a prosumer photovoltaic system with a capacity of 19.62 kWp was installed along with an energy storage of 10 kWh. The study shows that with the current billing system in place, the unit cost of electricity generation in the reference variant was more than 40% lower than the value calculated in this way for a photovoltaic system equipped with energy storage. The simulation carried out for dynamic tariffs, which will be in operation from July 01, 2024, showed that the use of energy storage can favorably affect the economic efficiency of photovoltaic installations, but it requires the installation of a smart energy balance management system.","PeriodicalId":428531,"journal":{"name":"Annals of the Polish Association of Agricultural and Agribusiness Economists","volume":"119 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139199618","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The subject of the research were the changes in household expenses, food exports and imports, purchases and the volume of agricultural production. The study covers the years 2017-2021, of which the years 2020-2021 constitute the period of the COVID-19 pandemic. Data on GDP, the size and structure of household consumption, exports and imports of food, purchase of agricultural products and agricultural production, as well as prices of food products come from the Central Statistical Office. The study analyzed the structure and dynamics of selected values characterizing households and the agri-food sector. The results obtained indicate that changes in the functioning of the economy, as well as sanitary and administrative restrictions imposed on society during the COVID-19 pandemic may have contributed to an increase in the volume and value of agricultural production and to a change in its product structure. The greater beneficiary of this crisis situation was plant production, where the level of demand from households was relatively consistent with the intensity of the pandemic. However, a negative effect of the pandemic was an increase in the risk of conducting agricultural activities. Changes in consumer preferences related to changes in the severity of the effects of the pandemic and sanitary restrictions on the trade in food products have reduced the level of stability in running farms and exposed them to potential losses resulting from, among others, the inability to sell the produced production.","PeriodicalId":428531,"journal":{"name":"Annals of the Polish Association of Agricultural and Agribusiness Economists","volume":"67 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139213076","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The institutional environment of agricultural biogas plants shapes the specific operating conditions. It also influences several aspects of the operation, from ensuring the quality of the raw materials used for energy production to selling the energy produced. The main objective of this article is to present the transaction costs incurred by an exemplary agricultural biogas plant and to indicate their impact on the company’s operations. To collect primary data, a structured interview was conducted with the owner of an agricultural biogas plant located in the Lubelskie Province in July 2023. The investigated company generates electricity and heat from agricultural biogas in a cogeneration system. The study concludes that transaction costs influence the choices made within the agricultural biogas plant and translate into its operation. The relevance of the information provided and the level of trust between the different participants in the transaction is indicated. This avoids in most cases an increase in the level of transaction costs as well as negative consequences for the operation of the agricultural biogas plant. The transactions concluded indicate that agricultural biogas plants primarily operate within a region and a local community. The study is a contribution to further research into the area of transaction costs occurring in agricultural biogas plants.","PeriodicalId":428531,"journal":{"name":"Annals of the Polish Association of Agricultural and Agribusiness Economists","volume":"19 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139236249","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The current state of knowledge about the concept of resilience is presented, and a research gap regarding the measurement of resilience is identified. Based on the available literature, it was indicated what economic and environmental shocks Polish farms were exposed to in 2010-2019. Then, robustness indicators available in the literature were used to determine the level of resilience of individual groups of farms, divided by type of production. The indicators were calculated based on publicly available data from the FADN database and were related to the dynamics of profitability of economic units. The study showed that the impact of the indicated shocks is noticeable. Moreover, it was found that most of the surveyed farms were able to return to astable state within a year of the shock, indicating that they could be considered resilient. Based on the research conducted, it can be concluded that farms dealing with permanent crops are the most resilient to economic and environmental shocks.","PeriodicalId":428531,"journal":{"name":"Annals of the Polish Association of Agricultural and Agribusiness Economists","volume":"61 52","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139237381","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The results of trials of Research Centre for Cultivar Testing (COBORU) from 1966-2022, data from the Seed Inspection (IN) from 1986-2001 and Plant Health And Seed Inspection (PIORiN) from 2002-2023 regarding the varietal structure of seed production of winter wheat and production data on wheat yield in production were used according to Statistics Poland. To assess the effects of breeding, the method of changing the yield potential of varieties was used. In this method, we use indexes determining the yield-producing capacity of individual varieties in relation to the standard. Changes in yield trends in variety experiments and production were analyzed. The growing importance of the variety as a factor enabling further increase in yield and the effect of breeding on the increase in yield potential has been demonstrated despite limitations in the use of nitrogen fertilization and chemical plant protection products. The existing yield gap between trials and production, amounting to approximately 55%, indicates great opportunities to further increase yields in production through better use of the yield potential of varieties created by breeding.","PeriodicalId":428531,"journal":{"name":"Annals of the Polish Association of Agricultural and Agribusiness Economists","volume":"13 ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139242854","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Surveys were carried out at the provincial level in 2010-2023, and at the county level on the basis of 2010 and 2020 agricultural census data. The surveys show that the processes of spatial concentration of cattle population in Poland are occurring faster in the case of cows, and they are also more advanced 62 and 93 counties with the highest cattle population and counties with the highest cattle density without cows and cows, using 20% and 30% of agricultural land in Poland. However, there was no correlation of the level of cattle stocking without cows and cows in 2010 in individual counties with changes in stocking rates by 2020. It was found that in the case of both studied groups of animals, the stocking is located mainly in the belt from Podlaskie to Wielkopolskie provinces. The fastest depopulation process occurs in southeastern Poland.","PeriodicalId":428531,"journal":{"name":"Annals of the Polish Association of Agricultural and Agribusiness Economists","volume":"106 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139250339","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The paper aims to determine the level and pace of ageing of employees in Poland compared to other European Union countries, and in particular to compare its scale between agricultural and other occupations. The study uses LFS data gathered in the EUROSTAT database and the comparative method in relation to values of the renewal ratio. The age structure of employees changed noticeably between 2002 and 2022. The proportion of employees aged 50-64 in the group of all employees increased by 11 pp. in the EU. The analyses show that in the years 2002-2022, in both the EU and Poland, agricultural workers were the oldest group among all the major occupation categories. The renewal ratio for the agricultural worker category was 1.2 in the EU and 1.4 in Poland in 2022. Nevertheless, in the period under consideration, in the EU and in Poland, the pace of ageing was relatively higher for other occupations, especially for services and sales workers, clerical support workers, and craft and related trades workers. On the other hand, managers are the only employee group in Poland reporting an increase in the renewal ratio. Changes in the age structure of the agricultural labour force in Poland and in the EU need to be explored in the context of the dynamic changes taking place in the agricultural sector in recent decades, and also in correlation with demographic trends in European societies.","PeriodicalId":428531,"journal":{"name":"Annals of the Polish Association of Agricultural and Agribusiness Economists","volume":"187 ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139250523","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
