In this study, a flexible-possibilist chanced constraints programming (FCCP) model is developed to plan the energy-transportation systems at a metropolitan scale (METS), which have multiple uncertainties in soft constraints and objective function. The FCCP could tackle multiple complexities such as the combination of vague possibilities, flexibilities and probabilities. Superior to the conventional optimization approaches, the FCCP model would avoid losing uncertain information and enhance the robustness. It can also quantitatively analyze the effects of the uncertain parameters on system cost. The FCCP model is then applied for dealing with METS of Beijing, and solutions are obtained under different satisfactory degrees and confidence levels. The results reveal that: 1) the power demand will increasingly depend on the imported power and renewable energy power; 2) the implementation of electric vehicles will improve the environment by reducing the pollutant emission, while the need of battery supply facilities will cost approximate 4×10⁹ dollars; 3) the carbon mitigation will decrease with the growing number of EVs, the upgraded power supply pattern and the cruel air quality requirement. These findings could provide support for decision-makers to plan the METS system with multiple uncertainties.","PeriodicalId":428499,"journal":{"name":"EngRN: Energy Sustainability (Topic)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128621843","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are five dimensions commonly utilized by researchers which are namely Availability, Affordability, Technology & Efficiency, Governance & Regulation and Environment & Sustainability. Upon synthesizing with energy sector policies, these five dimensions are also applicable in case of Pakistan. To quantify these dimensions there were 60 indicators are being selected from the last five-year studies and then through the Discrimination analysis, there 39 indicators are finalized for Pakistan. The availability dimension has 13, affordability has 10, technology & efficiency has 6, governance & regulation has all the 7 and environment and sustainability has 3 indicators to be utilized for further analysis. The selected indicators are robust as they are based on past data and has the major variations during the studied period. Hence, these indicators could be utilized for energy security recommendations in future policy scenarios for Pakistan.","PeriodicalId":428499,"journal":{"name":"EngRN: Energy Sustainability (Topic)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121952043","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Windy areas on land are being tapped to extract this energy. Nowadays, offshore wind farms, i.e. wind turbines installed in the sea are also coming up. The economics of wind energy are driven by demand and supply of the energy market. One such area where there is high demand for energy is South Asia. Within South Asia, the prospects for wind energy appear promising at the Palk Strait, the junction of India and Sri Lanka. Being a windy open patch of shallow sea, flanked by two fast growing markets with high energy demand, it may be easier and economically viable to install wind turbines in the Palk Strait and generate energy for usage by India and Sri Lanka. This paper explores the prospects of installing Wind Turbines across the Palk Strait.","PeriodicalId":428499,"journal":{"name":"EngRN: Energy Sustainability (Topic)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116193425","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The vision of “smart city” has been pursued worldwide to transform urban habitats into superior efficiency, quality, and sustainability. This phenomenon prompts us to ponder what role the scholars in operations management (OM) can assume. In this essay, we express our initial thoughts on expanding OM to the smart‐city scope. We review smart‐city initiatives of governments, industry, national laboratories and academia. We argue that the smart‐city movement will transition from the tech‐oriented stage to the decision‐oriented stage. Hence, a smart city can be perceived as a system scope within which planning and operational decisions are orchestrated at the urban scale, reflective of multi‐dimensional needs, and adaptive to massive data and innovation. The benefits of studying smart‐city OM are manifold and significant: contributing to deeper understanding of smart cities by providing advanced analytical frameworks, pushing OM knowledge boundaries (such as data‐driven decision making), and empowering the OM community to deliver much broader impacts than before. We discuss several research opportunities to embody these thoughts, in the interconnected contexts of smart buildings, smart grid, smart mobility and new retail. These opportunities arise from the increasing integration of systems and business models at the urban scale.","PeriodicalId":428499,"journal":{"name":"EngRN: Energy Sustainability (Topic)","volume":"1453 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127444423","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Equity crowdfunding is substantially different in terms of motivations to invest as well as in size, horizon, and expectations of the investment. For the first time – using a sample of 345 initial equity offerings in United Kingdom platforms Crowdcube and Seedrs in the period 2014–2015 – this study provides evidence of the attractiveness of sustainability-oriented ventures in equity crowdfunding. Results show that, although sustainability orientation does not increase the chances of success or of engaging professional investors, it attracts a higher number of restricted investors. This evidence is interpreted considering institutional logic, whereas professionals follow a market logic, and restricted investors consider also a community logic.","PeriodicalId":428499,"journal":{"name":"EngRN: Energy Sustainability (Topic)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-03-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131103390","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The project management processes and practices can contribute here and this research provides frontiers and boundaries of scope to bridge the technical and engineering areas in green building construction to project management practices and processes. Therefore, the project management researchers will have a broad view of the green building research areas. The study draws attention to investigate a position of project management, which is less associated with engineering and technology in construction, and to represent a framework based upon the case of successfully accomplished buildings. The current contribution and scope of green building, energy and project management are clarified. A semantic clustering analysis of the boundaries is implemented. 51 articles with the high impact factor (above 2.7) are selected and empirically reviewed. A literature synthesis approach is presented. Therefore, the findings are classified, and the assessment of evidence around the topics of energy scenario, green building and retrofitting, and cases of three awarded green buildings in Malaysia are facilitated. Derived from the structuralized empirical review, four core factors of retrofitting are identified: a) Energy efficiency improvement; b) Technological change; c) Organizational/managerial challenges, and d) Behavioural change. The contemplations of findings are suggested to be considered as crucial factors for every retrofitting building can be compared and discussed with respect to each of these categorized factors for enthusiast project management scholars. Green building and retrofitting of the existing green buildings have been a centre of attention for a decade. However, it appears that there is no current study which has been conducted to critically review and empirically study of previous research endeavours in order to define the frontiers and boundaries of the scope of this scientific sphere.","PeriodicalId":428499,"journal":{"name":"EngRN: Energy Sustainability (Topic)","volume":"106 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123815717","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Seeking to overcome their problems governments around the globe are increasingly relying on governance innovations, as do firms and civil society organizations. These innovative governance instruments often seek compliance through positive incentives rather than deterrence, and voluntary participation rather than mandatory subjection. The opportunities and constraints of these voluntary programs for urban sustainability have been more theorized than studied empirically. Seeking to increase knowledge on their performance this chapter draws lessons from an empirical study of eight such programs for commercial and residential buildings in the United States.","PeriodicalId":428499,"journal":{"name":"EngRN: Energy Sustainability (Topic)","volume":"73 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132606553","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
