Abstract
Wind Energy is one of the promising renewable energy sources. Windy areas on land are being tapped to extract this energy. Nowadays, offshore wind farms, i.e. wind turbines installed in the sea are also coming up. The economics of wind energy are driven by demand and supply of the energy market. One such area where there is high demand for energy is South Asia. Within South Asia, the prospects for wind energy appear promising at the Palk Strait, the junction of India and Sri Lanka. Being a windy open patch of shallow sea, flanked by two fast growing markets with high energy demand, it may be easier and economically viable to install wind turbines in the Palk Strait and generate energy for usage by India and Sri Lanka. This paper explores the prospects of installing Wind Turbines across the Palk Strait.
