An exogenous rotor position reference signal, which belongs to the class of biased sinusoidal signals with uncertain bias, amplitude, angular frequency, phase, is to be tracked without assuming its foreknowledge. An innovative output feedback adaptive nonlinear control scheme, which solves the aforementioned problem and simply generalizes the classical internal model-based input law, is presented. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is validated by experimental results.","PeriodicalId":427939,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Symposium on Sensorless Control for Electrical Drives (SLED)","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122372665","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The impact of modifying the machine design to be suitable for self-sensing on power conversion properties (Average, cogging and ripple torque) is presented for several classical and advanced machine types. General recommendations to yield both self-sensing performance and good power conversion properties are provided for induction machines, surface permanent magnet machines, flux-intensifying interior permanent magnet machines, and variable flux machines with variable magnetization state and variable leakage flux.","PeriodicalId":427939,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Symposium on Sensorless Control for Electrical Drives (SLED)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129326448","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed approach can be applied to multiphase motors whose stator winding is composed of multiple three phase units suitably spatially shifted. The method exploits the spatial phase shift among the stator units to isolate undesired prominent saliency harmonics. Compared to the state of the art, this approach does not require multiple saliencies models or sophisticated filtering processes, but only the knowledge of the saliency harmonic order to be suppressed. Finite Element Analysis and Experimental results applied to a dual-three phase permanent magnet synchronous motor confirm the effectiveness of the method.","PeriodicalId":427939,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Symposium on Sensorless Control for Electrical Drives (SLED)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130139304","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This provides a better dynamic performance compared to conventional Proportional Integral controller and simulation results of the comparison are presented. For the proper weight selection of H infinity controller, particle swarm optimization technique is employed which results in small sensitivity function in low frequency region and small complementary sensitivity function in high frequency region which is the trade off required for good reference tracking, disturbance rejection, being insensitive to modelling errors and noise. The reduced torque ripples along with improved rise time and steady state error by 0.6% and 25% respectively results in low noise, less vibration and better robust performance irrespective of external disturbances compared to PI controller.","PeriodicalId":427939,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Symposium on Sensorless Control for Electrical Drives (SLED)","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115322515","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The control system is similar to that of a traditional field-oriented control for three-phase motors, but the machine speed is estimated by a novel sensorless observer. Since multiphase motors with M phases (M is supposed odd) have the capability of controlling the odd spatial harmonics of the magnetic field up to the (M-2)th order, the developed observer excites the third-order spatial harmonic of the magnetic field to estimate the rotor speed. Simulation results are provided to assess the performance of the observer.","PeriodicalId":427939,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Symposium on Sensorless Control for Electrical Drives (SLED)","volume":"73 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124696447","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The use of an encoder to solve this problem is possible but this reduces the total reliability of the drive. Encoderless methods can identify the required position by only evaluating the measured electrical quantities of the machine. Generally, additional test signals need to be injected into the machine in the low speed range to extract the desired information. However, in electrically excited medium voltage synchronous machines (EESM), most of the known encoderless solutions fail in the low speed range. In this paper, a novel approach to track the rotor position in a brushless excited EESM is introduced. As the excitation machine is mounted on the same shaft as the main synchronous machine, this approach focuses on the evaluation of the stator quantities of the excitation machines to identify the rotor position. In particular, the electrical asymmetry caused by the rotating rectifier is used to detect the rotor position without the need of injecting any additional test signals. However, like in the case of operation with an incremental encoder, the initial rotor position must be known to obtain the absolute position.","PeriodicalId":427939,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Symposium on Sensorless Control for Electrical Drives (SLED)","volume":"R-27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126628821","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

EKF is a powerful tool for such an application. However, implementation of EKF based sensor-less control needs measurement of torque for faithful mathematical model [1], which hinders practical application of the scheme. In this paper, a scheme with load torque estimation using Non Linear Disturbance Observer (NLDO) [2] in cascade with EKF to eliminate load torque sensor is proposed. With this, the proposed sensor-less scheme eliminates position sensor as well as a torque sensor.","PeriodicalId":427939,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Symposium on Sensorless Control for Electrical Drives (SLED)","volume":"127 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115091362","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The basic idea of proposed method is using derivative currents in zero vector state, because the derivative currents include the rotor position information. This paper presents the relationship between rotor position and current response at zero vector mathematically. By this relationship, a parameter sensitivity could also be deduced. Then, the validity of proposed method is demonstrated by experiments.","PeriodicalId":427939,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Symposium on Sensorless Control for Electrical Drives (SLED)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115264270","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
