Distributed computing techniques in combination with on-demand Clouds help matching the requirements and the offered resources. This paper evaluates existing distributed computing models according to their specific code, data and resource handling and defines a specific one, called dispersed computing, by consolidating existing research on dispersed data transmission, data storage and code execution. It furthermore contributes a mapping of the model to typical Cloud environments. Complementary, we share our experience with dispersed computing implementations.","PeriodicalId":427901,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Black Sea Conference on Communications and Networking (BlackSeaCom)","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123321598","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the challenge of energy consumption has become a crucial problem in these dense SON deployments. Being inspired from the biological immune system's simple but effective default features like auto-configuration and auto-memorization, in this paper, we propose a novel immune-system inspired energy efficiency self-configuration framework for SONs. More specifically the self-configuration concept is redefined mapping the B-cell concept in immune system. Here, three different techniques, i.e., the user switching, the coverage area decrease and the sleep mode, are proposed in order to provide effective solutions for the self-configuration behavior of the SON system. An analytical derivation of these different solutions is also presented by the aid of the Markov chain state diagram. It is shown that the proposed energy efficient SON framework increases the acceptance rate of SON base station's transmission requests. The evaluations also show that the proposed framework provides an optimum level in order to stabilise the fluctuations of the energy consumptions.","PeriodicalId":427901,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Black Sea Conference on Communications and Networking (BlackSeaCom)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134618609","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These techniques were tested with Zolertia Z1 motes running Contiki by measuring the performances of different radio duty cycling protocols using a range of radio wake-up rates and various levels of global radio traffic. Advantages and disadvantages of the different techniques are discussed and the feasibility of enhancing them for multihop networks is explored.","PeriodicalId":427901,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Black Sea Conference on Communications and Networking (BlackSeaCom)","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134330047","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The mathematical expressions characterizing interrelations between key parameters of a single-element antenna were obtained. The analytical relation for antenna return loss versus stub length and coupling coefficients of dielectric resonator with the feeding line and open space is derived. The assessment of the potential possibility and conditions of perfect antenna matching with feeding line is carried out. The numerical analysis of different antenna parameters proving the obtained analytical expressions is performed. A 4-element antenna array using the introduced excitation scheme is proposed.","PeriodicalId":427901,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Black Sea Conference on Communications and Networking (BlackSeaCom)","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133378914","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular, given an environmental application, we propose to leverage trivial and non-trivial connections between different sensor signals, in order to find patterns that are likely to provide innovative solutions to existing problems and to establish different data models. The aggregation of such data models will provide evidence of connections between different events and environmental responses to those triggers, faster and better than trivial mining sensors data. As a consequence, the software has a significant potential for matching environmental applications and challenges that are related in non-obvious ways.","PeriodicalId":427901,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Black Sea Conference on Communications and Networking (BlackSeaCom)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132043909","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Emerging real-time services such as VoIP and Video on Demand have stringent delay requirements. Long Term Evolution (LTE) has been developed to provide higher data rates, lower latency for real-time services through Differentiated Services (DiffServ) support, and lower cost of operation with its all-IP based architecture. The LTE MAC scheduler plays a crucial role to achieve these objectives by distributing available radio resources among User Equipments (UEs). In this paper, a novel LTE downlink scheduling algorithm taking both channel qualities and traffic types of UEs into account is proposed. First, incoming traffic is classified into real-time and nonreal-time flows which are inserted into a priority list according to traffic types and channel qualities. The scheduler assigns available resource blocks to UEs using the order in the list. A reconfigurable parameter in the proposed scheduler determines the resource prioritization level for real-time services, and hence allows network administrators to more effectively control the resource allocation according to the QoS requirements of UEs and changing network dynamics. OMNeT++ based simulations demonstrate that the tradeoff between the performance improvement of UDP flows and the performance degradation of TCP flows can be controlled by tuning the reconfigurable traffic prioritization parameter of the proposed scheduling algorithm.","PeriodicalId":427901,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Black Sea Conference on Communications and Networking (BlackSeaCom)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121644695","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the SIoV every vehicle is capable of establishing social relationships with other vehicles in an autonomous way with the intent of creating an overlay social network that can be exploited for information search and dissemination in VANET applications. The contribution of this paper is two-fold: firstly, we define some relationships which can be established between the vehicles and between the vehicles and the road side units (RSUs); secondly, we propose a SIoV middleware which extends the functionalities of the Intelligent Transportation Systems Station Architecture (ITS SA), defined by ISO and ETSI standards, to take into account the elements needed to integrate VANETs in the SIoT. Additionally, we present results of software simulations analyzing realistic vehicular mobility trace in order to study the characteristics of the resulting social network structure.","PeriodicalId":427901,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Black Sea Conference on Communications and Networking (BlackSeaCom)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115402873","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we present characteristics, such as size, duration, average rate, of α flows computed from NetFlow records collected over a 7-month period from 4 ESnet routers. Flows moving datasets as large as 811 GB and at rates as high as 5.7 Gbps were observed. Some source-destination pairs were found to repeatedly create α flows. An analysis of the rates of the 1596 repeated α flows created by one pair showed considerable variance, with minimum rate of 100 Mbps, maximum rate of 536 Mbps, and a coefficient of variation of 30%.","PeriodicalId":427901,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Black Sea Conference on Communications and Networking (BlackSeaCom)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129511774","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
