While data were collected via focus groups, twenty-two participants were purposively sampled based on the criteria-Australian travellers who have been to the same international destination three times or more for leisure. Data analysis used the thematic approach, which commenced with coding by identifying themes. The findings reveal that leisure travellers do seek variety in their hotel selection. It also identified three types of international leisure travellers based on their hotel selection within the same destination. Firstly, the same location within the destination and the same hotel as previous visits. Secondly, the same location within the destination and a different hotel to previous visits and finally, different location within the destination and a different hotel (rather than sticking to a hotel chain).The findings of this study further enrich the understanding of loyalty and variety-seeking behaviour in the accommodation sector. This paper extends the concept of variety seeking behaviour to micro level consumption choices—hotel selection at a destination.","PeriodicalId":427864,"journal":{"name":"South Asian Journal of Tourism and Hospitality","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-08-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122675457","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Existing literature on Bao as a board game is mostly from a historical, educational, and cultural angle, whilst there is less attention on the potential of Bao as sports tourism. To expand the literature, this study focuses on Bao from a sports tourism perspective by exploring the perception of Bao as sports tourism from the residents’ views. An interpretivism paradigm approach was applied, and the data collection instrument was designed with open-ended questionnaire to gather data from the respondents. Purposive sampling was used to select the respondents, and the collected qualitative data was subjected to content and thematic analysis. The main findings revealed that perception of Bao as sports tourism from residents’ views such as leisure, refreshing the mind, locals and tourists are attracted to Bao, can play Bao with family and friends, and locals and tourists join playing Bao. Further findings revealed that a sense of belonging to a group and a sense of belonging to a community is how residents perceive Bao as sports tourism. Researchers in other parts of the world, such as South Asia, where mancala board games are played, can conduct similar studies and even go beyond to apply a quantitative approach to further understand the phenomenon of mancala from a tourism marketing perspective. The tourism stakeholders such as destination marketing organizations should consider the factors such as leisure, refreshing the mind, the attraction of locals and tourists to Bao, and the sense of belonging to a group or community when promoting Bao as sports tourism.","PeriodicalId":427864,"journal":{"name":"South Asian Journal of Tourism and Hospitality","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-08-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123568317","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The transformative power of ICT has created a paradigm shift in the tourism industry by providing an opportunity for tourism service providers and tourists to co-create value. Moreover, recent technological developments have paved the way for new markets, product/ service innovations, management practices, and competitive strategies, thus forming a complex socio-technical tourism ecosystem. Meanwhile, postmodern, digitally savvy tourists expect tourism service providers to be more active in digital platforms. Consequently, a burgeoning research stream has started looking into these new developments, capabilities, and changes driven by ICT advancement in the tourism and hospitality industry in recent times. Moreover, to better understand and anticipate these fundamental changes, novel theoretical lenses, approaches, concepts, themes, and even research methods have emerged lately. Future of Tourism Marketing, edited by two renowned contemporary tourism scholars, Seongseop (Sam) Kim and Dan Wang, adds to this growing research stream by emphasizing how ICT developments have revolutionized conventional tourism marketing strategies. The reviewer used the academic approach as applied by Gamage (2021) and Peiris et al. (2020) in reviewing this book.","PeriodicalId":427864,"journal":{"name":"South Asian Journal of Tourism and Hospitality","volume":"231 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-08-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123255396","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, this study aimed to appraise how tourists perceived green resort attributes performance and how personal emotional intelligence could influence their future behavioural response. One hundred and fifty guests were randomly selected who had stayed in three green resorts in Langkawi and Penang to participate in this study. Applying regression analysis revealed a positive relationship between the green resort attributes performance and future behavioural response through emotional intelligence. This study also discovered that international tourists recorded a higher mean score for positive emotions compared to their domestic counterparts. Theoretically, this study enriches the existing literature by providing a deeper understanding of how tourists’ emotions affect their subsequent responses based on the green resort attributes performance. Practically, the findings of this study will be applicable to green resorts in Malaysia as their performance will induce positive emotions that impact the behaviours of tourists towards these resorts in the future, for example, recommending green resorts to their families or friends.","PeriodicalId":427864,"journal":{"name":"South Asian Journal of Tourism and Hospitality","volume":"340 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-08-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"113989629","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study systematically reviewed literature in order to determine the key criteria needed to implement such goals. A search of Scopus indexed journals as well as grey literature published up to March 2020 yielded 114 papers for examination. Using a Network Theory approach, the study found 14 common criteria for successful policy integration of the SDGs. The findings from this paper support that the achievement of the SDGs needs a comprehensive and holistic approach to achieve them. Through an assessment of many different fields of study, commonalities or networks occurred demonstrating how one goal can support and be a means to an end to achieve another. Conclusions consider that using Network Theory to assess tourism policies may assist in the success of policies for the achievement of the SDGs due to its interrelated nature.","PeriodicalId":427864,"journal":{"name":"South Asian Journal of Tourism and Hospitality","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-08-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126621142","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Tourism has long focused on extraordinary, exotic and grand heritage assets at the expense of ordinary, mundane elements the human past that are part of the everyday lives of ordinary people. The paper argues that there are numerous ways in which ordinary heritage should be researched better in South Asia, how it might be used as a tourism resource, and as a tool for community empowerment.
