The installed electricity generation capacity of Pakistan is 23636 MW, which is not fully exploited as plants operate at less efficiency or remain shut down due to non-payment of circular debt. Energy shortfall resulted in introduction of load shedding program which cost about 8 billion US$ to the economy every year. The situation has further compounded due to high transmission and distribution losses (20%), theft of electricity, declining revenue collection and corruption, etc. Due to inadequate domestic oil reserves, Pakistan spends about US$ 15.473 billion every year (2016) on the import of oil and petroleum products to meet her energy demand. Agriculture is an important sector of the economy of Pakistan, which contributes about 21% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and generates productive employment opportunities for 45% of the country’s labor force. Besides meeting the food and fiber requirements of the local population, it also supports other sectors of economy such as manufacturing and services because of having robust horizontal and vertical linkages with them.","PeriodicalId":427316,"journal":{"name":"Current Investigations in Agriculture and Current Research","volume":"63 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128563818","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Urban sprawl converts forest and farming lands into urban lands, leading to the decrease of arable forming lands and economic forest lands, which presents the threat to the food security, lumber industry and environment for human beings Wu and Oueslati [1]. In the US, there is an annual conversion of 500,000 ha away from food and fiber production systems. Coupled with a one percent annual population increase, this will reduce today’s allocation of 0.6 ha per person to 0.3 ha by 2050 Francis et al. [2]. Besides economic impacts, the environmental quality is also significantly affected Bhattarai et al. [3], Thomas and Sporton [4]; Walsh et al. [5]. Both field observations and simulative and numerical analysis suggest that urban growth-driven land-use changes significantly influence the surface heat balance, exchange of water vapor and momentum between the atmosphere and the surface layer, and consequently results in the changes of the environment Vadrevu et al. [6]; Vlachogiannis et al. [7]. Most importantly, with decreased farming lands, agricultural practices are expected to be intensified including increased use of fertilizers in order to boost productivity. This eventually results in aggravated environmental impacts in terms of water contamination and greenhouse gas emission, which ultimately will lead to climate change. Climate change studies have documented clear warming trends globally, which results in higher surface temperatures. Global average surface temperature increased by about 0.74°C during the 20th century; over the next 40 years, the average US temperature is projected to increase by 1‒2°C, with increase of 2–3°C in the interior Lysak and BuggeHenriksen [8].","PeriodicalId":427316,"journal":{"name":"Current Investigations in Agriculture and Current Research","volume":"86 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122664546","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since the early 1990s, the practice of forest management has evolved to be more supportive of the multi-functionality of forest areas and the sustainability of their resources. It is a matter of reframing the interventions in the different management units through the adoption of “restorative” activities that enhance the resilience of these ecosystems. This paper proposes to explore the possibilities of developing a global system of knowledge and understanding of argan ecosystems.
