Through the analysis of two Portuguese daily newspapers and the language that they use to talk about Islam, I will examine how these themes are covered in a Portuguese context. In this article I seek to integrate popular Portuguese media in a wider context of news on Islam, seeking to find similarities between different media sources as well as seeking to identify the specificities of the Portuguese case. For this purpose, the article will focus on the week following the Charlie Hebdo attacks in Paris and how Portuguese media discussed Islam during that period.","PeriodicalId":42630,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Religion in Europe","volume":"12 1","pages":"260-284"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1163/18748929-01203002","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46086689","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this, the article uses the case of the Swedish Salafi website darulhadith.com, perhaps the largest provider of Islamic texts in Swedish online. The results show how the computer-aided methods can greatly facilitate the gathering of information on publication patterns and affiliations that can serve as a basis for further, in-depth studies of content and context. The article discusses possible avenues for assessing levels of impact and suggests further ways in which the content of the material gathered can be explored using computer-aided methods.","PeriodicalId":42630,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Religion in Europe","volume":"13 1","pages":"1-22"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1163/18748929-20201472","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44390885","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The most numerous of these were the Baptists. They maintained close ties with ethnic minority co-religionists within Romania and collaborated with religious organizations abroad, especially the Baptist World Alliance (bwa). The latter resulted in conflict with Romanian government and ecclesiastical authorities. The actions of the bwa in opposition to the Decision reveal the extent to which transnational organizations influenced the development of policies concerning religion during the crucial years leading into World War ii. Using previously unused archival material, the article draws out the role of domestic religious minorities in the struggle between the Church, the State, minority groups, and foreign powers and provides a fascinating convergence of national, transnational, and ecumenical attempts at changing the religious space in Europe.","PeriodicalId":42630,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Religion in Europe","volume":"12 1","pages":"49-77"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1163/18748929-01201009","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45253672","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
