Drawing on insights from approach to expressive means in texts in different functional styles, this article demonstrates how expressive linguistic and paralinguistic means are employed in order to establish a contact with a target audience and facilitate the positive corporate image of the enterprise and its products and services. Corporate magazines which outnumber in total nonrecurrent circulations non-corporate ones and embrace huge audience, are shown as mass media that perform such functions as informing and public opinion formation, typical of non-corporate media. Expressivity in magazines for clients is viewed as a means of goods promotion and clients' loyalty sustainment; in magazines for staff, expressivity is involved in the process of forming a model of employee behavior, thus contributing to company values actualization and staff involvement into their implementation; which enables them to represent the company in the society; whereas in magazines for partners it is used for keeping the readers' attention and influencing their opinion, enhancing the rational assessment of the common professional issues.","PeriodicalId":42545,"journal":{"name":"Vestnik Volgogradskogo Gosudarstvennogo Universiteta-Seriya 2-Yazykoznanie","volume":"17 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87023677","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study is devoted to the problems of ethnocultural code identification and description. It is carried out within multidisciplinary approach and with special software application in order to verify the preliminary outcomes. The criteria for cultural and ethnocultural codes differentiation are suggested, the author's methodology of philological research into ethnocultural codes and complex verification of the results obtained is tested. The data was obtained from the corpora of precedent Brazilian novels, published in the first quarter of the 20 th century (1902–1922s). This period of Brazilian literature is called Pre-Modernism, it has insufficiently been studied by Russian researchers as of yet. The results of social-and-humanitarian expertise and linguistic analysis as well as quantitative characteristics have enabled the author to reveal and describe ethnocultural code, which is contained in Brazilian fictional texts of the first quarter of the 20 th century. This code is shown as a structure, which is comprised of the ethnocultural codes of sertões, Bahia, race, space, and religion. The thematic groups of lexical units that verbalize each of the above-mentioned codes are characterized, the peculiarities of their functioning in the texts are identified.","PeriodicalId":42545,"journal":{"name":"Vestnik Volgogradskogo Gosudarstvennogo Universiteta-Seriya 2-Yazykoznanie","volume":"5 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78392244","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The coinciding names of linear objects situated in two cities constitute the object of the study. The names are indicated in the official documents of Volgograd City Administration and Sevastopol Department of Architecture and Urban Planning. The undertaken analysis resulted in identification of considerable quantity of similar names. The hodonyms of symbolic, vegetative and anthropogenic linguistic codes were found to have major similarity, which is largely due to the tendency to avoid ideological, historical and personal reference, and assign neutral names to new linear objects. Minor matches occur in hodonyms that realize material, social-and-collective linguistic codes. The nominations that actualize the material code follow the tendency of assigning ideologically unmarked names. The historical heritage of the Soviet Union accounts for the coincidence of names that implement the social-and-collective code. The fewest matches were found in the topographic, memorative (both individual and group) code and names denoting professional activities. This is stipulated by different geographical conditions in which the settlements are located, and their economies. The memorative code also differs substantially and reflects the citizens' striving to commemorate historical figures, military units and other unions that had significant impact on each of the cities. The study carried out has enabled the author to identify the hodonyms, which demonstrate ambiguity in realizing some linguistic codes.","PeriodicalId":42545,"journal":{"name":"Vestnik Volgogradskogo Gosudarstvennogo Universiteta-Seriya 2-Yazykoznanie","volume":"10 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79929748","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The material for the study was former workers' comments and anonymous questionnaires completed by current employees of Russian enterprises. Based on empirical data processed under Fisher's angular transformation method, which enabled highly accurate comparison of small samples, three toxic communication zones in industry were identified: the zones of toxic bosses, toxic management, and toxic workers. The authors performed a Likert scale survey of executives, managers, and workers. The results of single-factor and two-factor analysis of variance helped us to establish the relation between toxic communication and so-called toxicity focuses, that is, standard topics which are constantly in the centre of destructive communications in the workplace. The paper determines lexical and grammatical means of expressing emotions which are emotive markers of toxic communication (affectives and connotatives). It shows that abusive words and phrases, zoolexics, vernacular and slang vocabulary, colloquial emotionally colored vocabulary, and phraseological units are equally relevant for all three zones of toxic communication zones. Quantitative analysis of the identified emotive markers in terms of their structural and morphological characteristics revealed the abundance of interjections, nouns, adjectives, and adverbs of degree and intensity.","PeriodicalId":42545,"journal":{"name":"Vestnik Volgogradskogo Gosudarstvennogo Universiteta-Seriya 2-Yazykoznanie","volume":"7 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90921267","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The research is carried out on the material that has not been previously considered in the dynamic aspect (slang of football fans, hip-hop culture, and k-pop representatives), new words of student slang are involved, the dynamics of which is currently studied unsystematically. The replenishment of the lexicon of these subcultures is revealed in the projection of modern material on the slang dictionaries of the past years. In the course of the study, the thematic dominants in the field of slang innovations were identified (names of representatives of subcultures and their idols, names of types of subcultural activities and their products). Among the main socio-cultural factors that led to updating the vocabulary of subcultures, transformations in the higher education system (student slang), youth music fashion (slang of the subcultures of k-pop and hip-hop), rotation of players in the team (slang of football fans) were noted. The lexicon of musical subcultures is replenished mainly by transliterated borrowings. The slang of students and football fans is updated due to the native language resources used by nominators in acts of univerbation, abbreviation, suffix word formation. In these areas, the special productivity of the nomination game techniques (phonetic mimicry, structural and semantic phraseological transformations) was noted, which indicates a high level of linguistic creativity of slang speakers.","PeriodicalId":42545,"journal":{"name":"Vestnik Volgogradskogo Gosudarstvennogo Universiteta-Seriya 2-Yazykoznanie","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79123781","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The performed analysis has made it possible to identify internationalization, intensification, intellectualization and integration as current trends in the creative neologization of this semantic area. The most productive methods of non-usual word formation in the studied lexical subset include blending, lexicalization of an abbreviation, stem truncation; less frequent – holophrasis, graphics, the inclusion of a foreign component in the centaur word; rarely used – reduplication, tmesis, anagram, stepwise way of word formation, pluralization, creation; irrelevant – the emancipation of the morpheme, the spillage of the word. It is shown that a most creative reaction of Internet users is caused by disapproved objects of reality with a variety of rejected socially significant features; their neonominations are used in contexts with a dominant negative average tone. The dominant regular sphere of functioning of neolexemes, which are formed in unusual ways with the semantics of disapproval/approval are such genres of Internet communication as social networks, blogs and forums. Protologisms, even with a transparent internal form and a readable motivation, are rarely conventionalized. Most of the unusual neonominations of unacceptable/acceptable objects of social reality can be attributed to transnominatives, whose nominative purpose is secondary.","PeriodicalId":42545,"journal":{"name":"Vestnik Volgogradskogo Gosudarstvennogo Universiteta-Seriya 2-Yazykoznanie","volume":"30 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84645279","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The object of the study is Belarusian and English verbs denoting the movement of a person. The author uses a complex method to reveal implicatory semantic features in the verb meaning, including conceptual analysis and modelling of the situation of movement, component analysis of meaning on the material of dictionary definitions, contextual analysis of concordance examples from national text corpora (COCA, Belarusian N-corpus). As a result of the study, several inferential schemes were identified. These schemes reflect the combining patterns of differential semantic features in the core of verb meaning (movement parameters) and implicatory features of person's characteristics: \"direction of movement – person's desire, intention\", \"body posture – social evaluation\", \"speed – energy, emotion\", \"purpose – morality, will\". The presented schemes of inferential knowledge, as well as the characteristics of a person that were identified in the meanings of the verbs of movement during the research, serve as a semantic basis for verbs of movement to implement a characterizing function in speech: a description of movement in a certain manner induces a characteristic image of a person. The results of the study proved the hypothesis that some knowledge about a person as a performer of the designated movement is stored in the implicational of the verb meaning. This knowledge becomes the target for inference based on the associative links between the differential components of meaning in the verbs of movement.","PeriodicalId":42545,"journal":{"name":"Vestnik Volgogradskogo Gosudarstvennogo Universiteta-Seriya 2-Yazykoznanie","volume":"42 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75731792","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using the methods of historical-linguistic, definitional and semantic analysis of scholarly and scientific-theoretical sources (grammars, grammar treatises and dictionaries) published in Russia in the period from the late 18 th century to the mid 20 th century, the author traces the evolution of the phonetic status of umlaut. It was ascertained that in the 18 th century, in line with the traditions, established by the German grammarians, umlaut was first considered a diphthong, since it was widely believed to be a combination of two sounds pronounced together. It is shown that in the late 18 th century, the approach to the evaluation of the umlaut's status begins to change. This is to be explained by the change of scientific and linguistic paradigm in Russian linguistics. The facts of terminological variation are revealed and characterized. In the course of its existence, the term \"umlaut\", which entered Russian linguistic terminology only by the end of the first third of the 20 th century, received several one-word or compound names: \"ogolosok\" (1799), \"peremena glasnykh\" (vowel change) (1844), \"perezvuk\" (1845), \"pereglasovka\" (1857), \"sliyaniye glasnykh\" (vowel fusion) (1864), \"izmeneniye glasnykh\" (vowel mutation) (1871), \"pereglasovaniye\" (1882), \"suzhivaniye glasnykh\" (vowel narrowing) (1895). Comprehension of the essence of the stated category opens up wide perspectives for studying complex synergetic processes of discourse system transformation. This determines the relevance of this issue. The objective of the research is to identify the features and aspects of the category of relations, which further lay the basis for the formation of the functional relations and functional space of discourse. Particular attention is paid to functional discourse relations. To characterize them, the author delves into the study of sense relations, which are considered from three main angles: syntagmatic, paradigmatic and derivational. Discourse senses create different types of discursive relations, which, in turn, affect the formation of the functional plane of discourse. It is emphasized that the process of functional discursive relations formation is conditioned by the communicative situation, the cognitive system of the communicants, their social and cultural background. It is concluded that formation of adequate discursive senses corresponding the communicative situation and its goals determines the construction of certain discourse functional relations, which as well affect the transformation of the senses and dynamics of discourse functional system. Discourse sense system formation is a complex multifaceted process implying interdependence and interaction of the senses and relations of discourse. Relations are a discourse-organizing factor, since they contribute to structuring the integral sense plane of discourse.","PeriodicalId":42545,"journal":{"name":"Vestnik Volgogradskogo Gosudarstvennogo Universiteta-Seriya 2-Yazykoznanie","volume":"1244 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86487333","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The names of linear hydro objects – rivers flowing through the territory of the Adyghe Republic are in the focus of consideration. The variety of Adyghe stems and formants, which constitute hydronyms, is represented. The models of such nominations coining are characterized, their productivity is identified. The analysis of etymological, cultural, and ethnolinguistic aspects has enabled the author to conclude that the Adyghe toponyms mostly retained the internal form and connection with the objects that served as the source of nominations. The semantic types of designations, including \"nature\", \"man\", \"landmark in space\" have been identified. As a result of the analysis, it was found that the hydronyms of Adyghe Republic represent a certain system of names that reflected the ethnolinguistic picture of the world and the place of a person in it. A comprehensive analysis resulted in structuring the hydronymic space of the region, taking into account systemic relations and interrelations within the subsystem. All hydronyms are combined into a toponymic field, the core of which is topobases, the most frequent in hydronyms and oikonyms derived from them and having the widest semantics. In the center there are units formed according to three semantic types and to productive word-formation models. On the periphery of the field under consideration, there are hydronyms formed on the basis of archaic derivational formants, roots according to unproductive derivational models, but their reference to the selected semantic types is preserved. The suggested approach to the study of hydronyms is applicable to other classes of toponyms, which include the names, traditionally associated with the regional landscape and comprising the regional onomastic field.","PeriodicalId":42545,"journal":{"name":"Vestnik Volgogradskogo Gosudarstvennogo Universiteta-Seriya 2-Yazykoznanie","volume":"11 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88487287","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
