In e-business environment, the business offers (service offers) play a major role in attracting numerous consumers. To find the most profitable (in terms of service offer) web service, there is a need for the selection mechanism to rank the functionally similar business driven web services based on the provider’s service offers and the requester’s requirements on them. In this paper, the authors define a tree structure called service offer constraint tree ( SOCT ) to model the requester’s demands on the service offers of business web services. The authors explore the selection mechanism which selects and ranks the functionally similar business web services based on the requester’s service offer requirements and preferences. The paper also presents the broker-based architecture for business driven web service selection which facilitates the publishing and selection.","PeriodicalId":425045,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. Information technology and the internet in particular have created new opportunities for data collection, storage and processing. While technology enables companies to address customers directly and thus increase sales and customer retention, this form of personalisation may infringe upon users’ privacy. To examine this trade-off, we first identify benefits and costs of personalisation based on the findings of qualitative interviews. Next, we conduct a quantitative survey to assess the risks people perceive for various data types. We segment the respondents according to their privacy concerns and illustrate how people’s general attitudes towards personal data disclosure determine their perceptions of benefits and costs of personalisation.","PeriodicalId":425045,"journal":{"name":"Int. Most of the intelligence resources are on the web, so it is very important to describe the semantic meaning of the web resources. In this article, we use the XML, RDF and ontology on the semantic web to describe the intelligence resources. Besides, we build competitive intelligence domain ontology, which is the precondition of the construction of the competitive intelligence analysis system. In this paper, model architecture of competitive intelligence analysis system is proposed, which consists of several modules, such as semantic content analysis, and intelligence retrieving, and so on. The competitive intelligence analysis system can assist business executives making decisions and developing enterprise development strategies.","PeriodicalId":425045,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. They are often a source of heterogeneity. In order to make them interoperable, the semantic links between their entities must be established. This task is called ‘ontologies alignment’. However, the proposed alignment methods meet the challenge of ‘scaling up’. To take up this challenge, we propose an alignment method with partitioning. This method consists of partitioning each ontology into blocks around the anchors. In the alignment step, each block of the first ontology is aligned with one block of the second one. The results obtained in the evaluation of our method on selected ontologies show its efficiency.","PeriodicalId":425045,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. Improving the transmission quality of user network is essential for the current requirements, however, user network environment is generally quite complicated and there exists all kinds of problems, consequently, the traditional central server architecture cannot solve these issues out because it cannot support the high throughput in the network. According to these drawbacks, in this paper, we propose a new architecture, which is made of the edge nodes as points of presence (POP). This architecture improves significantly the user experience including connection and transmission by using network detection, data encryption, and smart access point selection. In particular, this improvement becomes more obvious to the user who experiences the slow network speed in network disk. Furthermore, this technology can be applied on services that require low latency and high throughput.","PeriodicalId":425045,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. In this study, we explore various query expansion approaches as a way to address this problem. We use the Web as a source of query expansion terms. We also tried a variation of a standard pseudo-relevance feedback method. Results on the TREC 2011 Microblog test data (TWEETS11 corpus) are very promising – significant improvements are obtained over a baseline retrieval strategy that uses no query expansion. Since many of the TREC queries were oriented towards the news genre, we also tried using only news sites (BBC and NYTIMES) in the hope that these would be a cleaner, less noisy source for expansion terms. This turned out to be counter-productive.","PeriodicalId":425045,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. It has also introduced interoperability and performance problems. Interoperability has been improved with the introduction of the WS-I* Basic and Basic Security Profiles. New web stacks such as Apache CXF have attempted to address performance issues. The purpose of this research is to investigate the performance impacts of securing WS-I* compliant SOAP messages when using the Apache CXF web service framework. We measured the performance impact of WS-Security and WS-SecureConversation under different conditions and using various WS-I* compliant cryptographic algorithms. We found that WS-SecureConversation is the better option when sending a large number of messages but for a small number of large messages WS-Security can sometimes be the better option.","PeriodicalId":425045,"journal":{"name":"Int.
