The first method aims to detect differences between two images obtained from the same object at two different instants of time. Both small scale sharp changes and large scale average changes are detected. The second method detects features that differ in intensity from their surroundings and it produces a multiresolution analysis of an image as a sum of scale-dependent components. As images are usually noisy, Bayesian inference is used to separate real differences and features from artefacts caused by random noise. The use of the Bayesian paradigm facilitates application of flexible image models and it also allows one to take advantage of an expert's prior knowledge about the images considered.","PeriodicalId":425029,"journal":{"name":"2013 8th International Symposium on Image and Signal Processing and Analysis (ISPA)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125982825","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This method represents a multi-scale and multi-temporal analysis of infrared image sequences of the inspected surfaces by an attention operator to detect feature points. Such points may indicate possible sources of abnormal thermo-mechanical stress and overheating. This operator implements linear aggregation of a temporal change filter with a corresponding spatial saliency filter using an optimized value of the temporal change coefficient to extract the multi-scale feature points. The monitoring is mostly carried out through the detection and tracking of stress-relevant feature points based on the multi-scale area spatial and temporal descriptors extracted at the feature points. The experiments conducted with infrared image sequences have confirmed the reliability of the proposed operator and showed its high potential in surface image analysis for monitoring of wafer-scale integrated circuits.","PeriodicalId":425029,"journal":{"name":"2013 8th International Symposium on Image and Signal Processing and Analysis (ISPA)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125307980","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The array model changes with frequency. Narrowband analysis is not suited for short duration and, more in general, non-stationary sources. Most existing wideband direction finding algorithms are based on sensor output channelization (frequency binning) and neglect correlations among frequency bins, intra-bin finite bandwidth effects and spectral leakage that may create ghost sources during signal subspace estimation and impair the consistency of DOA estimators at high signal to noise (SNR) ratios. In this paper, a minimum leakage MUSIC-based estimator of subband signal subspaces from the space-time array covariance is introduced. Resulting subspace estimates can be fed to any frequency domain Maximum Likelihood (ML), Weighted Subspace Fitting (WSF) or focusing algorithm for final DOA estimation. Realistic simulations demonstrate the superior performance of the new estimator in difficult environments.","PeriodicalId":425029,"journal":{"name":"2013 8th International Symposium on Image and Signal Processing and Analysis (ISPA)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123945862","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, while most phones offer a camera for taking pictures, the image processing capabilities are relatively sparse. The challenges that arise with real-time image handling are not yet countered by complex techniques. Because of the limited computation power, simple algorithms were used. In this paper, we will show that the technique of nonlinear diffusion can be used in (near) real-time on most smartphone's GPUs if being implemented in an OpenGL ES shader. The presented implementation is then used for several image-related tasks, namely denoising, deblocking and upscaling directly on the phone. As the performance evaluation shows, anisotropic diffusion offers a nice framework for complex mobile image handling in several arising problem areas.","PeriodicalId":425029,"journal":{"name":"2013 8th International Symposium on Image and Signal Processing and Analysis (ISPA)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126248159","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Novel multicarrier techniques are proposed to meet these requirements. The orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is an attractive technique that achieves high data rate and high spectral efficiency and, at the same time, suppresses multipath fading in wireless communications. However, the OFDM is very sensitive to mobility of the transmitter, receiver or surrounding objects. The mobility produces interchannel interference which significantly deteriorates transmission performance. The interchannel interference suppression represent research challenge. Carrier frequency offset (CFO) estimation and its compensation represent a way to improve OFDM system's performance. In this paper, we consider CFO estimation in the frequency domain by using well known iterative algorithms for precise estimation of spectral peak's central peak frequency. Simulations show that the proposed method outperforms standard CFO estimation methods in terms of accuracy. In simulations, both AWGN channel and multipath channel are considered.","PeriodicalId":425029,"journal":{"name":"2013 8th International Symposium on Image and Signal Processing and Analysis (ISPA)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133827793","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Log Polar Transform has primarily been used for image registration where it is applied after phase correlation, which in its turn is applied on the whole images or in the case of template matching, applied on major parts of them followed by an exhaustive search. We investigate how this transform can be used on local neighborhoods of features and how phase correlation as well as normalized cross correlation can be applied on the result. Thus, the order is reversed and we argue why it is important to do so. We demonstrate a common problem with the log polar transform and that many implementations of it are not suitable for local feature detectors. We propose an implementation of it based on Gaussian filtering. We also show that phase correlation generally will perform better than normalized cross correlation. Both handles illumination differences well, but changes in scale is handled better by the phase correlation approach.","PeriodicalId":425029,"journal":{"name":"2013 8th International Symposium on Image and Signal Processing and Analysis (ISPA)","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134118133","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Undistorted text images from various books characterized by strong variation of language, font and layout properties are discriminated from typical errors in digitization processes such as occlusion by an operator's hand, visible book edge or image warping artifacts. A bag of local features approach is compared to a global characterization of location, size and orientation properties of detected keypoints. Machine learning is used to discriminate between those classes. Results for different features are compared for the task of discrimination between undistorted text and the major distortion class which is presence of the operator's hand, where features based on the bag of local features derived histograms achieved a cross-validation accuracy better than 99 percent on a representative data set. Taking into account up to three classes of distortions still resulted in cross-validation accuracies beyond 90 percent using bag of local features derived visual histograms for classifier input.","PeriodicalId":425029,"journal":{"name":"2013 8th International Symposium on Image and Signal Processing and Analysis (ISPA)","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132037323","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We refined existing approaches based on ROIs defined relative to the number plate. Square-Mapped-Gradient features are extracted from the ROI and recognition is accomplished by classification utilizing a learning set. The classifier is evaluated using ground truth data provided manually. Via numerical simulations we evaluated the detection tolerance of the method and proposed semi-automatic and fully automatic methods. The SMG-based classification is able to give nearly perfect results when there is no outlier class, which decreases to 92% and 87% in case of the semi-automatic and fully automatic methods, respectively. Separation between outliers and known types can be balanced by a threshold. Since the size of the learning set can be kept low and the size of the SMG features are small, this approach can be successfully used to solve mobile client-server scenarios.","PeriodicalId":425029,"journal":{"name":"2013 8th International Symposium on Image and Signal Processing and Analysis (ISPA)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123352562","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
