Entre 1635, momento del estallido del conflicto entre Madrid y Paris, y la firma de la paz de los Pirineos en 1659, ambas republicas experimentaran un cambio en la tradicional relacion mantenida hasta el momento con la Monarquia Hispanica: en la republica ligur se cuestionaran los solidos lazos que la unian al monarca Catolico desde 1528 y se impondran aquellos sectores que apostaban por la neutralidad y la plena autonomia; en las Provincias Unidas, una vez firmada la paz de Munster en 1648, que ponia fin a un agotador conflicto de 80 anos, se impondran aquellos grupos de poder favorables a una alianza con la Monarquia Hispanica junto a la que la republica pondra en pie el sistema de alianzas internacionales destinado a frenar la politica expansionista de Luis XIV y a velar por la estabilidad internacional. A partir de la invasion de ambas republicas por parte de Francia en 1672, que culminara en el bombardeo de Genova en 1684, tanto las Provincias Unidas como la republica ligur acabaran consolidando sus buenas relaciones con el monarca Catolico que se erigio, junto al Emperador, en uno de los principales garantes de la supervivencia de este tipo de estructuras politicas policentricas de marcado caracter urbano cuya autonomia se veia cuestionada por el nuevo modelo de soberania plena postulado por Francia.","PeriodicalId":42400,"journal":{"name":"Studia Historica-Historia Moderna","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2019-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44316101","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The reasons for the survival of this local industry must be sought in the circumstances that surrounded manufacturing in the ducal town in former days. The present paper probes into the early stages and the later expansion of Bejar-based wool manufacturing and analyses the main factors that contributed to its location in this town. Centuries of textile activity have left a valuable cultural heritage as well as an indelible mark in Bejar by shaping a unique industrial landscape whose main elements are characterised in this paper. Last but not least, the current state of this heritage is likewise described before examining several conservation proposals.","PeriodicalId":42400,"journal":{"name":"Studia Historica-Historia Moderna","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2019-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45454908","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Yet given the context of a pan-European struggle for hegemony (1635-1659), Philip IV could hardly fail to take advantage of this singularly-favourable opportunity to intervene in the internal conflicts of France and so weaken his principal enemy, in much the same way as Paris had become involved in Catalonia and Portugal (and, previously, in Italy.) This thorough but detailed analysis of Spanish involvement in these quintessentially ‘French’ revolts is principally based upon the rich documentation held in the Archivo General de Simancas, and so constitutes a first step towards correcting a historiographical oversight that still prevails on both sides of the Pyrenees. It will attempt to set out a provisional interpretation of the extent to which the outcome of the Franco-Spanish war had yet to be resolved in the years 1648-1653 and how the Fronde was not an exclusively French affair.","PeriodicalId":42400,"journal":{"name":"Studia Historica-Historia Moderna","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2019-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43383024","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

En la Galicia costera jalonada de pequenas villas portuarias, como en sus homonimas de la cornisa cantabrica, las gentes de mar encontraron en las cofradias, un medio eficaz de proteccion frente a otros colectivos, y los mareantes de puertos vecinos. En muchos casos las cotas de poder de estas sobrepasaron el ambito meramente gremial, adquiriendo amplias prerrogativas en lo politico y lo economico. Different legal frameworks and economic goals, as well as mistrust between public institutions governing Catalonia and Aragon hampered the resolution of two legal disputes concerning public debt. As a result, Catalan retaliation on Aragonese trade did persit during long time. In the first case, the Spanish monarchy imposed in 1499 a political mediation and solution. In the second, damage of this legal violence to regional trade weakened the Aragonese bargaining power: the Diputacion or permanent government accepted in 1532 the Catalan conditions to suppress retaliation. These practical considerations ruled proposals of mutual tariff reductions coming from the Aragonese Parliament since 1537, finally approved by the Catalan Parliament in 1564, in order to promote trade between both territories.","PeriodicalId":42400,"journal":{"name":"Studia Historica-Historia Moderna","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2019-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48285030","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

La irrupcion de la guerra en la Peninsula, especialmente en el terrible periodo de mayor beligerancia y de necesaria adaptacion que fue de 1635-1660, implico transformaciones sobre el sentido de la autoridad regia, sobre sus limites, sobre las obligaciones de los subditos, sobre el papel y el sentido de las elites y de las instituciones; cambios que en muchos casos fueron indeseados por sus protagonistas pero a las que se vieron abocados por la necesidad y la urgencia. En el convulso siglo XVII la crisis de la percepcion del liderazgo de la proyeccion exterior de la Monarquia sento las bases de una nueva forma de pensar que era ser castellano y que era ser espanol.","PeriodicalId":42400,"journal":{"name":"Studia Historica-Historia Moderna","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2019-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43331754","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

La relevancia del tema viene dada por la peculiaridad del caso estonio que viene determinada por el caracter nacional del sistema ya que la masa campesina estaba compuesta casi exclusivamente por estonios, y por lo avanzado de las medidas suecas en materia social. El territorio que hoy configura Estonia fue ocupado durante siglos por distintos pueblos y potencias extranjeras, como los alemanes Balticos, los daneses, los suecos, incluso por un breve periodo de tiempo los polacos, y finalmente los rusos. Aun hoy en dia se hace referencia al periodo dorado, o los buenos tiempos suecos, para hablar de la ocupacion sueca por lo que supuso para los derechos de la mayor parte de la poblacion. La investigacion revela ese caracter diferenciador y lo evidencia con diversas comparaciones temporales con otras partes de Europa.","PeriodicalId":42400,"journal":{"name":"Studia Historica-Historia Moderna","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2018-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47203649","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

She was seven years old and would remain there until 1699. She first asked her father and then her brother to leave the monastic state to which she was forced for patrimonial reasons and to which she never resigned herself. Her story is inscribed within the phenomenon of the so-called forced monacations, to which the Council of Trent had tried to remedy. On the death of her brother, in 1693, Anna, about sixty years old, asked the archbishop of Palermo to grant the nullity of her religious profession and her return to the lay state. Thus began a very severe judicial dispute that triggers a violent jurisdictional conflict between ecclesiastical and secular magistracies, the Vatican Congregation of Bishops, the Sicilian magistracies and ends up reaching the king of Spain and the pope. The exceptionality of the case-study lies in the possibility of its close contextualization, thanks to the rich archival documentation produced by that judicial litigation, to the intervention of different magistrates and institutions, secular and ecclesiastical and numerous social actors (from the simple nun to the viceroy). In the course of this litigation, Anna produced numerous memorials that reveal her judicial strategies, her noble logic and other aspects of her volatile personality.","PeriodicalId":42400,"journal":{"name":"Studia Historica-Historia Moderna","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2018-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47526508","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
