The excitation of the generator is achieved by means of PWM inverter/rectifier connected to a single capacitor on the DC side. The objective is to keep the DC voltage at the rectifier output constant and equal to the reference value regardless of changes in the rotor speed. To achieve this, an MPC control is proposed and investigated. The effectiveness of the developed MPC is evaluated though a comparison with a fuzzy PID controller previously developed. The obtained performance are then presented and discussed.","PeriodicalId":423870,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Clean Electrical Power (ICCEP)","volume":"288 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117154713","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The daily optimized operation of the VPP is focusing on maximizing its benefit, considering VPP comprising renewable energy sources and energy storage systems, thermal engines and demand-response loads. The optimization model is tested considering two case studies of average electricity prices on the day-ahead market, each of them in four scenarios of the mix renewable energy sources. The model, analyzed on a 24 hours time horizon, is implemented and tested in GAMS. The obtained results show that the best benefit obtained by the virtual power plant owner is obtained when the energy production of analyzed available renewable energy sources is high, and the day-ahead market prices are elevated. In the present paper, the case when the power system operator constraints the exchanges with the virtual power was not considered.","PeriodicalId":423870,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Clean Electrical Power (ICCEP)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124944308","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Parallel inverters are generally used to achieve high reliability and reduce inverter rating. In this paper the inherent limitations of conventional droop control method for low voltage parallel inverters with mainly resistive tie line are shown, and multi-loop control strategy is proposed. Such strategy uses proportional plus multi-resonant controllers to achieve high quality of the voltage through harmonic distortion rejection. The design procedure of this controller is investigated thoroughly and it is shown that both controller resonant gain and bandwidth affect the stability of the system. Also a new configuration for virtual resistive impedance loop is proposed to improve the accuracy of both linear and non-linear load sharing without degrading voltage quality. Simulation results with two 4-kVA inverters are provided, showing proper stability margin, having sinusoidal voltage in the presence of nonlinear load, power sharing with a good accuracy and proper dynamic. Furthermore, some highlights on system reliability, and its possible improvements by proper redundancy, are briefly illustrated at the end of the paper.","PeriodicalId":423870,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Clean Electrical Power (ICCEP)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123391751","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Photoelectrochemical (PEC) cells, which convert solar energy into storable chemical energy directly, is one of the solutions of the storage problem in photovoltaics. In this paper the preparation of freestanding monograin membranes for use in PECs and their characterization is described. The manufacturing process in terms of reproducibility semiconductor particle densities and accessibility for contact formation is optimized. Here especially the etching process reducing the thickness of the polymer film and thereby exposing more of the monograin particles required attention since the etching temperature plays an important role determining the thickness of the. Whereas monograin layer solar cells as yet require particles of at least 45 μm diameter, the monograin membrane process developed here allows to produce such membranes from particles as yet down to 38-45 μm diameter, open and accessible from both sides.","PeriodicalId":423870,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Clean Electrical Power (ICCEP)","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129208482","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By proving that the VSC-HVDC system is a differentially flat one, its transformation to the linear canonical form becomes possible. This is a global input-output linearization procedure that results into an equivalent dynamic model of the VSC-HVDC system for which the design of a state feedback controller becomes possible. Furthermore, to estimate and compensate for modeling uncertainty terms and perturbation inputs exerted on the VSC-HVDC model it is proposed to include in the control loop a disturbance observer that is based on the Derivative-free nonlinear Kalman Filter. This filtering method makes use of the linearized equivalent model of the VSC-HVDC system and of an inverse transformation which is based on differential flatness theory and which finally provides estimates of the state variables of the initial nonlinear model. The performance of the proposed VSC-HVDC control scheme is tested through simulation experiments.","PeriodicalId":423870,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Clean Electrical Power (ICCEP)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127694957","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

On the other side, power supply of magnetic bearings, required for high-speed systems, may lead to the complete self-discharge at no-load in islanded operation within hours. The paper presents an optimized design of a hybrid suspension system for steel rotor flywheels combining permanent magnets and excitation coils, activated only in presence of displacements with respect to vertical steady-state position. Dynamic behavior is simulated by the adoption of a non-linear electromagnetic model including the influence of different parameters (for instance, temperature on magnet properties).","PeriodicalId":423870,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Clean Electrical Power (ICCEP)","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116494711","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It describes the results of the early project actions which concerned in: (i) analysing the actual school power supply system through locally metered data; (ii) developing the first step of a new electro-mechanical model which addresses the simulation of operation and dynamics within an off-grid power system; (iii) validating the new model. In particular the paper focuses on describing the development and the first step implementation of the new modelling approach which address: (i) voltage and frequency analyses over medium term period by means of simplified electromechanical models of power sources and power electronics, (ii) the analysis of different dispatch strategies and their consequence on voltage and frequency trends, (iii) the effects of dispatch strategies on the energy performances of particular components such as battery bank or dump loads. The new approach has also been applied in modelling the current school power supply system.","PeriodicalId":423870,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Clean Electrical Power (ICCEP)","volume":"75 4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125659819","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Dedicated DC/DC converters can be boost-like converters; they must be serially connected each other to obtain an higher voltage as required by the grid inverter. However, when the number of PV panels is relatively low, the sum of the voltages of the boost converters in a string may be insufficient to allow the inverter energy conversion function. In this paper a non isolated interleaved switched inductance converter is proposed and studied. Such a converter is characterized by a high voltage ratio and by a quite simple construction. A mathematical study of static characteristics of the proposed converter in both CCM and DCM conditions is provided together with the analytical estimation of losses. Moreover, the proposed converter has been compared, in terms of losses, with the dual stage synchronous boost converter.","PeriodicalId":423870,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Clean Electrical Power (ICCEP)","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131396599","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two different approaches are considered in designing last generation vehicles: Start-Stop, or Micro-Hybrid, and Electrically Assisted Turbocharger. The energy balance of a vehicle equipped with electrically assisted internal combustion engines is a quite critical point, as it has effects on the consistency of the hybridization, the design of the electric power generation system and of the battery. The energy balance of a C-segment vehicle adopting the two solutions is analyzed in this paper by suitable mathematical models. Moreover, the possibility to exploit the two approaches at the same time is discussed.","PeriodicalId":423870,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Clean Electrical Power (ICCEP)","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130970671","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
