{"title":"Cosmopolitanism and Inclusive Education through 21st-Century Disney Films","authors":"Ana López-Fuentes","doi":"10.3726/b21957","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.3726/b21957","url":null,"abstract":"By highlighting the links between cosmopolitanism and inclusive education, this book explores the potential of 21st-Century Disney films to tackle some contemporary social and cultural issues in order to promote inclusive values. This manuscript claims that the link between both fields is cosmopolitan education, which brings together the values and theories of cosmopolitanism and inclusive education. In particular, it examines three 21st-Century Disney animated films under a cosmopolitan lens to explore how they help to construct and reflect discourses about cosmopolitan issues such as geographical and cultural borders, global cities and climate change. The case studies were chosen on the basis of the Index for Inclusion: A Guide to School Development Led by Inclusive Values (Booth and Ainscow 2016), a document that aims to provide a new form of school curriculum adapted to 21st-Century social needs. The Index contains a list of sixteen inclusive values, which were used to determine the inclusive potential of the films. The inclusive values explored in each of the analyses were «community» in Tinker Bell and The Secret of the Wings, «respect for diversity» in Zootopia , and «sustainability» in WALL-E. This book uses textual analysis to explore how these three films can be used to teach and promote cosmopolitan issues such as the roles and meanings of borders, the global city and ecology in the classroom.","PeriodicalId":42373,"journal":{"name":"Turkic Languages","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147884535","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"文学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Romanian is a Romance language, but it also inherits an old Pre-Romance layer represented by both Indo-European and Pre-Indo-European elements such as Greek and Albanian. The book is divided into three parts. Part 1 is an extensive introduction which summarises the archaeological, historical, and linguistic problems of southeast Europe, with a focus on Romanian and its neighboring languages (the Slavic languages and Hungarian). It reviews various hypotheses regarding the region’s prehistoric cultures and how they developed across millennia; it continues with the Thracian cultural groups, which represent the substratum of Romanian, and how these groups underwent a long and complex process of Romanization; and finally, it analyzes the migration period and the new cultural groups that emerged during this long period. Part 2, the dictionary, includes more than 5,000 entries reflecting the representative vocabulary, but also rare and dialectal words, and words referring to flora and fauna. It covers the old Latin heritage, the substratum heritage, and Slavic, Hungarian and Ottoman influences, as well as some relevant neo-Romance elements (\"the New Romanization of Romanian\", a mainly nineteenth-century process.). Part 3 includes a glossary, as well as lists of the relevant prehistoric roots quoted in the dictionary.","PeriodicalId":42373,"journal":{"name":"Turkic Languages","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://d-nb.info/1315029634/04","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147901628","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"文学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

His masterful compositional strategies underscore, heighten, and construct sonic humor in his six (!!) comic operas. He crafts musical slapstick, satire, parody, and merriment using sudden breaks in rhythmic patterns, explosive harmonic shifts, excessive repetition, and startling pauses, as well as incongruous tempi, dynamics, range, and instrumentation. Dvořák also gives the orchestra its own \"voice,\" breaking the metaphorical \"fourth wall\" to reveal humor outside of the characters' awareness. Narrative description and comprehensive music examples guide the reader through all six of Dvořák's works in this genre, revealing a significantly under-appreciated side of the composer's immense creative skills.","PeriodicalId":42373,"journal":{"name":"Turkic Languages","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147909348","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"文学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Las tres primeras novelas de la inspectora Salazar ya cuentan con su correspondiente versión cinematográfica y la cuarta entrega se convertirá en serie de televisión de la mano de Heyday Films, la productora de las películas de Harry Potter. Este fenómeno cultural debe mucho a las mujeres que, como autoras o como personajes, fueron capaces de transformar la historia de la ficción criminal, pero la clave de su éxito literario resulta incluso más profunda. Este libro explora las características principales de la ficción criminal de Dolores Redondo, creadora de historias que transcienden la resolución de crímenes y hablan de la vida misma, enmarcándola no sólo como heredera de un género renovado por las grandes escritoras de los años ochenta y noventa en EE.UU, sino también de otros escritores y escritoras nacionales e internacionales, de psicólogos, de forenses criminalistas, de antropólogos, de expertos en victimología y de estudiosos de la religión, lo cual refuerza el carácter híbrido del género, dando lugar a unas novelas que se pueden calificar de criminales metafísicas con tintes góticos.","PeriodicalId":42373,"journal":{"name":"Turkic Languages","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://riucv.ucv.es/bitstream/20.500.12466/4074/3/Documento%20con%20embargo.pdf","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147903212","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"文学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
