Especially in perionitis related to Pseudomonas spp., treatment becomes difficult and may lead to catheter removal. However, some strains may differ. Here, we present a 14-year-old girl with P. putida peritonitis while on automated peritoneal dialysis due to familial Mediterranean fever (FMF)-related amyloidosis and end-stage renal failure. The patient was admitted with abdominal pain, fever, vomiting and cloudy peritoneal fluid starting one day before the admission. She was diagnosed with peritonitis when additional large amounts of leukocytes with 100% polymorphic nucleated cells were found in the peritoneal fluid. Intraperitoneal cefepime treatment was instituted empirically and systemic cefepime was added for up to three days when catheter dysfunction developed. The peritoneal fluid culture yielded cefepime sensitive P. putida and the treatment was stopped at the end of two weeks. No peritonitis recurrence or technical survival problem was found in the follow-up period. It was thought that infection with P. putida , which is thought to be an opportunistic pathogen with low virulence and high response to antibiotic therapy seen in immunosuppressive patients, may be related to canakinumab, which was being used by our case. However, to our knowledge, no prospective study evaluated changes in arterial functions in patients with ADPKD. The study aimed to monitor the changes in renal and arterial functions in patients with ADPKD with preserved renal functions. MATERIAL and METHODS: A total of 25 ADPKD patients and 12 controls were included in the study. Data on patient characteristics, biochemical parameters and arterial stiffness were recorded at baseline and at the end of fourth year. Determination of independent correlates of the change in eGFR and arterial functions was performed by linear regression analyses. RESULTS: There was a similar decline in renal functions over the study period in both groups. However, arterial functions deteriorated more rapidly in the ADPKD group. Having ADPKD was the only independent factor associated with the decline in arterial functions. CONCLUSION: There were significant decreases in arterial elasticity characteristics in the ADPKD group compared with the control group despite a similar decline in renal functions. Monitoring of arterial stiffness may be as important as monitoring of renal functions in ADPKD patients. In many studies, ischemiamodified albumin (IMA) is identified as a sign of OS. However, it has not yet been studied in patients with primary GN in the literature. In the present study, we aimed to determine the role of IMA in the pathogenesis of primary GN. MATERIAL and METHODS: Forty-five primary GN patients were divided into two groups as proliferative GN (PGN) (n= 17, 37.8%) and non-proliferative GN (NPGN) (n= 28, 62.2%) according to the histopathological findings. IMA was studied by the cobalt binding method. Since serum albumin levels are commonly low in patients with GN, we calculated the adjusted IMA (aIMA) according to serum albumin. RESULTS: There was no significant difference between the two groups regarding IMA compared with controls (n= 50). IMA was significantly higher in the PGN group compared with the control and NPGN groups (p= 0.009, 0.037; respectively). There was a negative correlation between serum albumin concentration and IMA. CONCLUSION: These results support the role of OS in the pathogenesis of PGN in which inflammatory immune glomerular injury is predominant.
