It causes a range of disruptive symptoms, including urogenital pain, lower urinary tract symptoms, psychological issues and sexual dysfunction.The aim of the study: To study the effect of Kegel exercises on patients diagnosed with chronic prostatitis..Materials and Methods: A purposive sample was used for this study, 94 patients with chronic prostatitis. This study was conducted at the urology outpatient clinics at El-Fayoum University and General Hospitals at El-Fayoum City.Tools: Data were collected utilizing the following three tools: I: An interview questionnaire. II- The National Institute of Health Chronic Prostatitis Symptom questionnaire, and III- Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale. These tools were used for data collection before and after implementation of the Kegel exercises program. Results: The present study revealed that there is a highly statistically significant difference between total practices scores in pre ,post and follow up test and the majority of the studied samples had an satisfactory practice in post test. As well as the study showed that that there was a highly statistically significant relationship of total practice with level of education and social status. Conclusion: Based on the finding, of the study it was concluded that the implementation of Kegel exercises program led to improvement in both knowledge and practices regarding chronic prostatitis. The improvement in knowledge is essential to improve practice. Aim: The aim of the present study was to determine the effect of nursing intervention on the reduction of pulmonary complications after thoracotomy. Design: A quasi-experimental research design was utilized in the study. Subject: A purposive sample of 70 adult patients from both genders required for thoracotomy was involved in this study and divided randomly into two equal groups (35 patients in each group). Setting: This study was carried out at Surgical Intensive Care Units at National Heart Institute. Tools: Two tools were used for data collection (I) A structured interview assessment questionnaire, (II) Postoperative pulmonary complications assessment questionnaire. The results: This study revealed that, there was a statistically significant difference in the occurrence of postoperative pulmonary complications between the control and study group, in which the study group showed lower occurrence of postoperative pulmonary complications in comparison to the control group. Conclusion: Applying the nursing intervention by the researcher, which involves monitoring of hemodynamic and respiratory status, care of the chest tube, physiotherapy and deep breathing exercises, using incentive spirometer, early mobilization, sterile wound dressing, and control of pain help in reducing postoperative pulmonary complications as well as decrease the patient’s length of stay in the hospital. {"title":"Assessing Women’s Knowledge and Practice Regarding Urinary Incontinence and Pelvic Floor Muscles Exercises","authors":"W. However, there are many actions to solve this problem the most important is pelvic floor muscles exercises which is registered as an effective method for improving urinary function. Aim: The study aimed to evaluate women’s knowledge and practice regarding urinary incontinence and pelvic floor muscles exercises. Study design: A descriptive design was used in this study. Setting: The study was conducted at outpatient clinics of Aga central hospital, Dakahlia Government, Egypt. Sample: A purposive sample technique was used to select 177 women. Tools: A structured interviewing questionnaire was used for data collection; It contained four parts: Part I: Women’s socio-demographic characteristics. Part II : women’s medical history. Part III: Women’s knowledge regarding urinary incontinence and pelvic floor muscle exercises. Ⅳ: Women’s practice regarding pelvic floor muscle exercises. Results: The study results revealed that, 40.2% of women had poor level of knowledge about urinary incontinence and 64.1% of them had poor knowledge about pelvic floor muscles exercises. Regarding women practice about (kigel 60.2%, squat 87.4%, bridge 71.3%, tabletop 81.1%, bird-dog 66.7%) was unsatisfactory. Conclusions: Studied women have poor level of knowledge regarding urinary incontinence and pelvic floor exercises. Also, they had unsatisfied reported practice regarding pelvic floor muscles exercises for Kigel, squat, bridge, tabletop, and bird-dog exercises so an educational program for improving women’s knowledge and practice regarding urinary incontinence and pelvic floor exercises is recommended. Aims: this study aims to assess awareness of elderly patients regarding diabetic foot ulcer prevention at the EL- Fayoum General Hospital. Research design: Descriptive research design was used. Settin g: The study was conducted at the medicine outpatient clinic at EL- Fayoum General Hospital. Subjects : Purposive sample composed of 300 elderly diagnosed with diabetes. Tools for data collection : Two tools for data collection were used as follow: 1 st tool: Structured Interviewing Questionnaire include demographic characteristics of elderly diabetic patients, past and current medical history, Knowledge assessment questionnaire, patients reported practice questionnaires. 2 nd tool: Observational check list questionnaire to assess foot ulcer risk included neurological foot assessment and peripheral vascular assessment. Results: revealed that 7% and 40.30% of studied subjects respectively had total good knowledge and adequate reported practice. In addition to, 14.23±3.004, 11.38±2.57 and 11.32±2.63 respectively were total score of neurological items, right and left peripheral vascular items . Conclusion: The current study concludes that statistically significant difference between neurological risk exposure and total score of knowledge. Aim: assess late life anxiety and depression among the elderly at a geriatric room. Methods: a descriptive research design was performed on a convenient sample consisted of 20 elderlies at Elhlal Elahmer and El-Noor and El-Amal geriatric homes that are located in Beni-suef governorate, Egypt. Tools: data were collected using 1) Socio demographic questionnaire, 2) Geriatric Depression Scale, 3) Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale. Results: the results of this study show that more than half of studied subjects suffer from symptoms of late life depression, results show also that more than two third of studied subjects suffer from late life anxiety. Conclusion: results of this study concluded that,there was asignificant relationship between late life anxiety and depression among the elderly at a geriatric room. Design: A Quasi experimental design (one group pre and post-test) was used in this study. Sample: The sample size was consisted of (120) postpartum mothers. Setting : This study was conducted at Obstetrics and Gynecology Department in Tamia General Hospital at Fayoum city. Tools: three tools were used in data collection in the present study: Structured Interviewing Questionnaire, Knowledge of postpartum mothers regarding puerperal sepsis, and Practice of postpartum mothers regarding puerperal sepsis prevention. Results: the findings of the present study revealed that there was a highly statistical significant difference improvement in total satisfactory knowledge and practices of postpartum mothers regarding puerperal sepsis after applying the instructional guidelines. Conclusion: According to the findings of the present study, the knowledge and practices of postpartum mothers regarding puerperal sepsis improved after applying the instructional guidelines and there were highly statistical significant differences pre, post and follow-up program. Emotional intelligence of head nurses may help in increasing staff nurses job satisfaction. Aim: The aim of this study is to explore the relationship between Head Nurses’ perception of their emotional intelligence and Staff Nurses’ job satisfaction . Setting: The study was carried out at Om El Masryeen general hospital, in Giza Subjects : All available Head Nurses at the time of data collection were included in the study (N=30). Also, all available staff nurses at the time of data collection were included in the study (N=113). Design: Descriptive correlational research design was utilized to carry this study. Data collection tools: Tool 1: Emotional Intelligence Self-Assessment questionnaire. Tool 2: The Index of Work Satisfaction Questionnaire. Results: Half of head nurses had moderate level of perception regarding their emotional intelligence and more than half of staff nurses who had moderate level of job satisfaction. Conclusion : A statistically significant positive correlation between emotional intelligence and job satisfaction. Recommendations : The study recommended that design training programs for head nurses to improve their emotional intelligence competencies.
