Microbial Desalination Cell (MDC) is a development of Microbial Fuel Cell (MFC), a method that can eliminate salt content in seawater using electricity generated by bacteria from wastewater. Stacked Microbial Desalination Cell (SMDC) is an MDC development where SMDC uses many pairs of ion Exchange Membranes (IEMs) where IEMs are placed between the Anion Exchange Membrane (AEM) and the Cation Exchange Membrane (CEM). This is intended to increase the efficiency of electron transfer. SMDC can also return more energy than other types of MDC so that the cost is more effectively. In this research, using a 2-SMDC reactor configuration with graphite rods as anode, CFC coated with activated carbon as a cathode, potassium permanganate as catholyte, and adding ion exchange resin to salt chamber. Independent variables used in this research were activated carbon mass variations of 0, 2, and 4 g. Parameters that will be obtained are COD, electrical productivity, and pH. The results obtained in this study indicate that the optimum mass variation of activated carbon is 4 g by adding Ion Exchange resin (ratio Resin Na and Cl 1 : 1) with a COD reduction of 57.808% and produces electrical productivity of 0.000561 W/m3 , and the change in pH by 0.24.","PeriodicalId":422976,"journal":{"name":"THE 5TH INTERNATIONAL TROPICAL RENEWABLE ENERGY CONFERENCE (THE 5TH iTREC)","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117090157","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The pyrolysis process is very sensitive to the temperature and pressure of its operation. The reaction mechanism that occurs in a pyrolysis reactor is sometimes uneven so it takes longer to ensure all biomass particles are pyrolyzed. Experiments were carried out at various temperatures of pyrolysis reaction as well as catalytic and non-catalytic conditions to obtain the highest furfural products in the pyrolysis vapor. Using GC-MS analysis, the results show that the role of acid behavior in the ZSM-5 catalyst can increase furfural products and maximum furfural products obtained under pyrolysis condition at 500°C of 1.11 milligrams per gram of raw material for rice straw and increase to 1.48 milligrams per gram under catalytic pyrolysis condition.","PeriodicalId":422976,"journal":{"name":"THE 5TH INTERNATIONAL TROPICAL RENEWABLE ENERGY CONFERENCE (THE 5TH iTREC)","volume":"88 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122693962","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the campus environment, the ISO 14001 is used as the guide for creating an environmentally laboratory. Based on this ISO, the environmental condition of the laboratory need to be checked periodically. Recently, IoT devices were developed as the tools to monitor the ecological status of the laboratory. However, the recent study of IoT-based monitoring is used only for collecting the data. The data is being processed manually on the server. In our research, we try to implement machine learning for the IoT-based monitoring tools to improve the performance and gives the capability to respond to any condition of the laboratory. In this paper, we discussed our proposed design of IoT-based monitoring devices. We used a microcontroller module called NodeMCU ESP8266 to build an efficient monitoring system. ESP8266 is a type of microcontroller board equipped with a WiFi module to make it possible to design a system that can send data from multiple sensors (temperature, humidity, light intensity, CO2 concentration) to be displayed and sent to the database server using the WiFi module. The data collected in the database will be processed using machine learning by the Classification and Regression Tree (CART) algorithm and then implemented to the microcontroller as embedded machine learning to detect impending early threats and provide early warnings. With this method, it has been found that the CART algorithm provides a speedy processing time with training and testing time of 0.5 seconds and 0.06 seconds, the precision of 0.999154, recall of 0.999946, and f1-score of 1.0. We also design our device to be compact to be placed anywhere inside the laboratory and consume low-power.","PeriodicalId":422976,"journal":{"name":"THE 5TH INTERNATIONAL TROPICAL RENEWABLE ENERGY CONFERENCE (THE 5TH iTREC)","volume":"79 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125908380","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The analysis was done based on the last three-year production data history of 7 (seven) palm oil processing factories in the region. The total fresh fruit bunches processed were about 891.624 tons/year, and the POME produced was 553.677 tons/year. The total potential electricity generated from POME reached 43.248.101 kWh/year. The factories took place in Babulu, Waru, Penajam, and Sepaku. The assessment of sustainability indicators in this research took into account the technology and economic aspects. The technology helps evaluate the technical planning of installations that are possible to build in the area. The economic aspect of sustainability evaluates the net present value (NPV), internal rate of return (IRR), and the payback period of renewable energy installation. This analysis aimed to get a comprehensive insight from the potential biomass energy that exists at the research locations and conduct a feasibility study based on techno-economic analysis to develop renewable energy. The results showed that Sepaku had the most significant potential of biogas by producing 1.752 Nm3/hour of biogas and generating 3.28 MW continuous power with a feed-in tariff of IDR1.065,462 IDR/kWh. The electricity was feasible to offer to the government electrical company. Moreover, this project had a payback period of 7.51 years and an IRR Project of 12.90% for private investors.","PeriodicalId":422976,"journal":{"name":"THE 5TH INTERNATIONAL TROPICAL RENEWABLE ENERGY CONFERENCE (THE 5TH iTREC)","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123597403","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
