Two experiments were conducted during the seasons 2009/2010 and 2010/2011 at the research station of the Agricultural Research Center - Ismailia Governorate, Egypt. The design was randomized complete block with four replications and included seven treatments include control (T 0 ), farmers fertilization (T 1 ), recommended by Ministry of Agriculture MoA (T 2 , T 3 and T 4 ), based on soil test (T 5 ) and (T 6 ) based on soil test plus micronutrients. The results in this study indicated that all NPK treatments had a positive effect on all parameters tested compared to control (no addition of fertilizers). The positive effects of the treatment are estimated in descending order: NPK by soil test +MN ( T 6 ) ˃ NPK by soil test ( T 5 )˃ NPK MoA ( T 2 )˃ fertilization by Farmers ( T 1 ) NK MoA ( T 4 )˃ NP MoA ( T 3 )˃ control ( T 0 ).NPK, depending on soil test plus foliar micronutrient (balanced fertilization) had also been shown to significantly increase plant nutritional status, grain yield, yield components and nutritional value of grain and straw. The highest values of nutrient were achieved by the balanced fertilization treatment NPK by soil test +MN ( T 6 ) which were in the first season (116:41:55) and the second (122:45:65) N, P 2 O 5 and K 2 O, respectively. in combination with two times foliar feeding with chelated micronutrient compound).","PeriodicalId":42226,"journal":{"name":"Egyptian Journal of Agronomy","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135099619","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective of the current study was to improve high seed-yielding lines of sesame tolerant to charcoal rot through two cycles of pedigree selection for eight selection criteria under artificial infection. The base population consisted of 185 families at the F 3 -generation. Broad sense heritability was very high and ranged from 0.79 to 1. Tall plants gave large number of capsules/plant (NC/P), long fruiting zone (LFZ), high yielding ability and low infection% of Macrophomina . Number of capsules/ plant gave sizeable genotypic (0.52) and phenotypic (0.49) correlations with seed yield/plant (SY/P). After the second cycle of selection, highly significant differences were noted for the eight selection criteria. The results revealed that the selection for days to 50% flowering improved earliness, but it was better if it restricted by SY/P. Meanwhile, selection for oil% restricted by SY/P gave the best improvement from the mid-parent in SY/P (70.16%**) followed by selection for 1000SW (62.14%**), SY/P per se (55.80%**) and selection for days to 50% flowering restricted by SY/P (39.76%**). The inclusion of a trait as an independent culling level improves the efficiency of the selection. Therefore, selection index incorporating favorable traits is recommended. The eight different methods of pedigree selection decreased the infection% at harvest ranged from -3.31%** to -15.45%** from the mid-parent.","PeriodicalId":42226,"journal":{"name":"Egyptian Journal of Agronomy","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2023-02-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48084015","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Three of these varieties were long staple, BBB (big black boll) (P 1 ), Australian (P 2 ) and G97 (P 3 ) while the other two varieties were extra-long staple, Giza 92 (P4) and G96 (P5 ). Hybrids produced from these parents and the parents were evaluated in Sakha Agricultural Research Station, Kafr Al Sheikh Governorate, Egypt. Studied traits were; boll weight, number of bolls/plant, lint percentage, seed cotton yield, lint cotton yield, first fruiting node, days to first flower appearance, duration of the boll maturation, upper half mean (U.H.M), fiber strength and Micronaire value. Difference between single crosses and double crosses (DC) was highly significant for most studied traits. GCA mean squares in all studied traits were significant for F 1 except for days to first flower and fiber fineness (micronaire reading). GCA mean squares were significant for DC except for lint%, fiber length and days to first flower. A very important issue of double-cross hybrids is the arrangement of parents, i.e., order effect, in the hybrids.","PeriodicalId":42226,"journal":{"name":"Egyptian Journal of Agronomy","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2023-02-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45862575","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
