Among various techniques proposed for PAPR reduction, SeLective Mapping (SLM) is a stochastic approach with the potential to achieve maximum PAPR reduction via phase optimization. In this paper, a measurable criterion for determining suitable phase sequences for near optimum SLM is derived, following which a large number candidates in the form of MPSK sequences are formulated to achieve near optimum SLM performance. In this framework each subcarrier can be both reused and time-shared by multiple nodes. Thus, this framework subsumes designs in which time-sharing and frequency-reuse are considered separately, and can therefore offer significant performance gains over them. Considering both time-sharing and frequency-reuse jointly gives rise to generally difficult to solve non-convex optimization problems. However, using approximation techniques based on geometric programming, we provide a computationally-efficient method for obtaining locally optimal solutions. Numerical examples confirm that the framework proposed herein yields achievable data rates that are superior to those yielded by currently available designs.","PeriodicalId":420837,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 15th International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (SPAWC)","volume":"115 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123448759","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We propose a LBP scheme which provides the rate optimal precoding for each MIMO link under a joint leakage and transmit power constraint and derive an iterative closed form solution for it. Depending on the constraints and the strength of the leakage power, the leakage power and/or the transmit power needs to be adjusted. Any leakage level between the egoistic case, where the leakage is not reduced at all, and the altruistic case, where the leakage is minimized, can be achieved. This allows to optimize the network performance in a MU-MIMO setup by optimally choosing the trade-off between leakage power and transmit power constraints. Using numerical simulations, we show the interdependency between the leakage power and the transmit power and demonstrate the gain we can achieve with the optimal trade-off.","PeriodicalId":420837,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 15th International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (SPAWC)","volume":"97 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124687352","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

MSM is, however, criticized for its low power efficiency, and we thus focus on a power-efficient constellation design to increase its power efficiency with convex optimization tools. Our scheme, termed MSM-JDCM (joint DC and subcarrier modulation), takes advantage of the compactness of sphere packings in a high dimensional space and treats the DC-bias as part of the information basis. Our scheme is shown to greatly outperform previous schemes for most working SNRs with a small number of subcarriers, and the gain is expected to grow with the number of subcarriers. The partial coordination is crucial in trading off system performance with backhaul overhead, and it is achieved through jointly optimizing the base station (BS) clustering and the downlink beamformers. Unlike many existing works, we focus on the practical scenario where the channel state information (CSI) is imperfect/incomplete at the transmitter. Mathematically, we formulate the problem into a penalized stochastic optimization problem, and propose an algorithm that converges almost surely to its stationary solution set. Interestingly, our method does not require any additional computational complexity or memory compared to the existing algorithms using perfect CSI. Effectiveness of our method is validated through numerical experiments.","PeriodicalId":420837,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 15th International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (SPAWC)","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126287704","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, when the connectivity in the network is limited, accurate synchronization of the nodes may be too costly to attain, and full TW-TOA measurements may not be available either, especially when the connectivity matrix is asymmetric. Centralized processing for the location estimation is also rarely feasible under such conditions. In this paper we propose an algorithm (method and protocol) for decentralized, cooperative TOA-based self-localization, which does not require synchronization and does not involve any “hand-shaking” procedures (of the kind required for TW-TOA measurements) between sensors. The procedure involves a single initial transmission by each sensor, followed by reports of the received TOAs by each sensor, followed by an iterative procedure in which each sensor estimates its own timing offset and position, as well as the timing-offsets and positions of relevant neighboring sensors, and announces its estimation results. We demonstrate convergence of the procedure to accurate estimates of the position of nearly all sensors, e.g., in scenarios involving 50 - 200 sensors in an area of 20 by 20 Km with an average 1:3 connectivity.","PeriodicalId":420837,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 15th International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (SPAWC)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121308020","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The relay is equipped with N antennas and all the users are each equipped with M antennas. The rate region of the network is first characterized by the cut-set bound, and then the degree-of-freedom (DoF) is computed. It is shown that the maximum DoF of the MWR network is K min{M,N} /2(K-1), and a DoF of equation can be achieved by the decode-and-forward (DF) relaying strategy. Using the technology of zero-forcing signal alignment and successive interference cancellation, a DF scheme is further proposed to provide a practical and efficient mechanism for the K-user MWR (K ≥ 2). Compared to the existing schemes, the new scheme has the advantage either in interference cancellation or in delay. Simulations confirm the effectiveness of the new scheme.","PeriodicalId":420837,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 15th International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (SPAWC)","volume":"119 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117118733","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We aim at designing an adaptive policy that can effectively respond to different primary network conditions. By applying stochastic learning automata, we propose an adaptive decentralized access policy. Each SU probabilistically chooses one of the M-best channels to access. The channel selection probability is then updated based on collision events. Our proposed adaptive policy utilizes two underlying distributed learning algorithms: one is to learn from sensing history on the primary channel availability, and the other is to learn from collision history on channel selections among SUs to avoid further collision. Some previously proposed distributed access policies can be viewed as special cases of our proposed adaptive policy, with a set of pre-set channel selection probabilities. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed adaptive policy in various distributions of mean channel availabilities across primary channels, as compared with other existing policies.","PeriodicalId":420837,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 15th International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (SPAWC)","volume":"222 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132615380","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper proposes a formal approach to designing a distributed scheduling protocol. Similar to previous queue-length based CSMA-type schedulers, the protocol proposed in this paper is a CSMA-type scheduler that is throughput-optimal, generates collision-free schedules, is fully distributed, and adapts to traffic demands without explicitly knowing the arrival rates. However, our design takes a more formal approach, where the multi-information (a natural extension of mutual information) between links is minimized, rather than maximizing the entropy, as was done by previous CSMA-type schedulers. Zero multi-information corresponds to a fully distributed scheduler. The formal approach in this paper also admits side information (e.g., a universal clock from GPS) into the framework. Simulations show our proposed protocol has better delay performance compared with previous CSMA-type schedulers.","PeriodicalId":420837,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 15th International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (SPAWC)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114365426","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
