Cohesion specifically integrates functionality for parallel computing, e.g. a scalable group model and methods for collective communication. It is designed as an extensible layered architecture built around an industrial strength microkernel component. As an initial use case, we present an aspect-oriented framework for parallel discrete optimization built on top of Cohesion.","PeriodicalId":419226,"journal":{"name":"Sixth IEEE International Symposium on Cluster Computing and the Grid (CCGRID'06)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132486661","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Their integration into more comprehensive management solutions that would simplify management, address the scale of grids and enable a higher degree of automation is difficult. This paper presents a management middleware that normalizes management for enterprise grids. Management tasks are rendered as autonomous services following a model-based approach. The paper first introduces the problem domain of managing enterprise grids and then describes the approach to a solution. The concept of a service delivery controller (SDC) is introduced that allows describing management tasks in terms of desired and observed state models, based on which a controller function autonomously performs tasks. The implementation of SDC inform of the SDC toolkit is discussed next. The SDC toolkit is based on the Globus Toolkit GT4. It extends GT4 by the standard for Web services distributed management (WSDM) and SDC-specific capabilities. Finally, a scenario is described where the developed approach and implementation have been applied to management of the Oracle 10g (grid) database system.","PeriodicalId":419226,"journal":{"name":"Sixth IEEE International Symposium on Cluster Computing and the Grid (CCGRID'06)","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120938424","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this reason, resource selection has been a challenging task especially in meeting user’s demand for a quality of service (QoS). A quality of service is the ability to serve a job by providing quality and reliable resource in fulfilling the user’s need. Quality and reliable resource selections naturally yield excellent and quality results. The background of the users and where the resource belongs to are important in determining the quality of a resource. This paper concerns with efficient and quality-based resource discovery using Condor ClassAd and PageRank technique in order to achieve a quality resource matching. The paper discusses how quality of users and resources are determined and considered in the discovery process prior to allocating jobs to resources.","PeriodicalId":419226,"journal":{"name":"Sixth IEEE International Symposium on Cluster Computing and the Grid (CCGRID'06)","volume":"33 3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116744556","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The approach offers the opportunity of achieving a high correlation between the file access patterns of parallel applications and the physical file distribution. First, any physical file distribution can be expressed by means of MPI data types. Second, mechanisms such as views and collective I/O operations are portably implemented inside the file system, unifying the I/O scheduling strategies of the MPI-IO library and the file system. The experimental section demonstrates performance benefits of more than one order of magnitude.","PeriodicalId":419226,"journal":{"name":"Sixth IEEE International Symposium on Cluster Computing and the Grid (CCGRID'06)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125666739","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In an environment in which both resource availability and software requirements evolve rapidly, this disconnect can lead to resource underutilization, user frustration, and much wasted effort spent on bridging the gap between applications and resources. We show here how these issues can be overcome by allowing authorized Grid clients to negotiate the creation of virtual clusters made up of virtual machines configured to suit client requirements for software environment and hardware allocation. We introduce descriptions and methods that allow us to deploy flexibly configured virtual cluster workspaces. We describe their configuration, implementation, and evaluate them in the context of a virtual cluster representing the environment in production use by the Open Science Grid. Our performance evaluation results show that virtual clusters representing current Grid production environments can be deployed and managed efficiently, and thus can provide an acceptable platform for Grid applications.","PeriodicalId":419226,"journal":{"name":"Sixth IEEE International Symposium on Cluster Computing and the Grid (CCGRID'06)","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132931876","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It provides the functionality grid users require, and offers grid developers the opportunity to test and alter grid components while the grid is in use. The grid was proven to operate properly by testing several applications and introducing new components. The performance is tested by the \"sleep testing technique\", and by implementing a quantum physics calculation. Data grids provide data-intensive applications with a large virtual storage framework with unlimited power. However, conventional scheduling algorithms for data grids are inadequate to meet the security needs of data-intensive applications. To remedy this deficiency, we address in this paper the problem of scheduling data-intensive jobs on data grids subject to security constraints. Using a security- and data-aware technique, SAHA (Security-Aware and Heterogeneity-Aware scheduling strategy) is proposed to improve quality of security for data-intensive applications running on data grids. Results based on real-world traces show that the proposed scheduling scheme dramatically improves security and performance over two existing scheduling algorithms","PeriodicalId":419226,"journal":{"name":"Sixth IEEE International Symposium on Cluster Computing and the Grid (CCGRID'06)","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117318349","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The networking technologies are also changing along with the advances of processor technologies. While the hardware has been constantly changing, parallel applications written in different paradigms have remained largely unchanged. With MPI being the most popular parallel computing standard, it is crucial to have an MPI implementation portable across different networks and architectures. It is also desirable to have such an MPI deliver high performance. In this paper we take on this challenge. We have designed an MPI with both portability and portable high performance using the emerging uDAPL interface. We present the design alternatives and a comprehensive performance evaluation of this new design. The results show that this design can improve the startup time and communication performance by 30% compared with our previous work. It also delivers the same good performance as MPI implemented over native APIs of the underlying interconnect. We also present a multistream MPI design which aims to achieve high bandwidth across networks and operating systems. Experimental results on Solaris show that the multi-stream design can improve bandwidth over InfiniBand by 30%, and improve the application performance by up to 11%.","PeriodicalId":419226,"journal":{"name":"Sixth IEEE International Symposium on Cluster Computing and the Grid (CCGRID'06)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129669099","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
