The inhumation grave is dated to the end of stage LTC1 (C1b – c) and it can be characterized by several specific attributes: 1 rare orientation of the buried woman with her head to the east; 2 depositing of remains of the dead female in a flexed (“hocker”) position on the right side which can be associated with the baby in her arms; 3 specific costume garniture characterized by absence of anklets, by a chain belt and an armlet; 4 higher social status of the buried female indicated by textiles/ burial shroud decorated with gold; 5 chain of 23 mutually hooked cramp irons probably as a symbol of the kinship of the mother and her child. Samuel, Karol Hensel","doi":"10.31577/szausav.2019.65.8","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.31577/szausav.2019.65.8","url":null,"abstract":"The paper presents the first results of the analysis of archaeofaunal remains from the monastery at Nitra-Zobor site (SW Slovakia). The majority of the 5201 analysed specimens (five samples) came from the cellar and floors of two monk’s houses from the Camaldulese Monastery of St. Joseph (1693 – 1782). The remainder originated from areas between the houses (one sample), layers connected to the construction and destruction of the baroque monastery (two samples), a single medieval feature (one sample) and unspecified contexts (two samples). The material is dominated by aquatic or semi-aquatic taxa (97.3 %) including fish (Pisces), crayfish (Astacus astacus), otter (Lutra lutra), beaver (Castor fiber) and the European pond turtle (Emys orbicularis). Only freshwater fish such pike (Esox lucius), carp (Cyprinus carpio), Danube catfish (Silurus glanis), sturgeon (Acipenser sp.), tench (Tinca tinca), dace (Leuciscus leuciscus), and bleak (Alburnus alburnus) were identified. Large-sized individuals predominate in the assemblage pointing to the anthropogenic selection of fish, and a wealth of natural resources or favourable artificial fishponds. The representation of skeletal elements from the head, trunk and fin indicate that complete fresh fish were brought to the site. Monks consumed whole or portions of fish (traces of butchery and chewing are recorded). The assemblage from house no. 9 had an exclusively fasting character, while house no. 3 yielded bones of domestic mammals – young sheep/goat, cattle, chicken, goose and turkey. The spatial differences are explained through the context of finds, when in the latter are related with the construction and destruction of the baroque monastery. Paulík from 1963 dated to the interface of stages BC/BD. Analysis of the sites of this horizon and typical shapes of pottery has proved that its existence cannot be confirmed on the basis of the finds published in 1963. Pažinová, Ladislav Chmelo","doi":"10.31577/szausav.2019.65.3","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.31577/szausav.2019.65.3","url":null,"abstract":"The Settlement from the Late Bronze Age in Detva, Lúčna štvrť (Meadow District) Site The aim of this article is to present results of the rescue excavation carried out in spring 2016 at the site of Lúčna štvrť in Detva, where settlement from the end of the Bronze Age had been discovered. The article presents finds discov ered during the removal of the topsoil and monitoring of excavated foundations of a detached house at building plot no. 7381/27 in the residential area of Detva. In the corner of the building plot with area of approx. 10 m 2 , a rich cultural layer and groundplan of a quadratic structure with an oven in the interior were uncovered. Dating of the settlement to the Late Bronze Age is enabled by fragments of various smaller and bigger mostly thick-walled vessels and pottery with high-quality black burnished surface including slanted as well as vertical flutings. The relics of settlement are rather simple in terms of numbers and expression and so are the findings of material culture.
