In this paper we identify the impact of network connectivity on the routing convergence delay and discuss its implication for networks in the Latin American region. BGP routing table snapshots showed that some networks in Latin American region are directly attached to large Internet service providers, while others attached to regional services providers. Our study shows that, when an edge network loses some of its connectivities, its attachment point to the Internet has great impacts on the BGP convergence delay. Our analysis shows that proximity to large Internet service providers improves the convergence time. We confirm our analysis through both simulation experiments and BGP routing log analysis for specific Latin American destinations.","PeriodicalId":415618,"journal":{"name":"International Latin American Networking Conference","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2003-10-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123064157","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The resulting tool provides a set of Pareto optimal solutions, facilitating the decision making process of designing a telecommunication network with a mix of different technologies.","PeriodicalId":415618,"journal":{"name":"International Latin American Networking Conference","volume":"70 3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2003-10-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115683243","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
