The proposed estimator, which we abbreviate ST-LP, is robust in the sense it does not require prior statistical knowledge of the channel. The only assumptions are the least-square (LS) estimates have limited spectrum and the channel follows the tapped delay line (TDL) model, which are commonly taken in practice. Since it is desirable slow delay variations operability acceptance, the delay-subspace is tracked by a subspace tracking (ST) algorithm. The ST-LP estimator can be implemented by two filtering structures, which provide a trade-off between accuracy and complexity. Simulation results confirm the superior performance of the ST-LP estimator when compared to methods already reported in the literature","PeriodicalId":414942,"journal":{"name":"2006 IEEE 7th Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications","volume":"2006 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-07-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134579087","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In our evaluation we consider MIMO-OFDM transmission. An achievable rate was previously derived in (A. Host-Madsen et al., 2005) assuming scalar channel. We extend this Wyner-Ziv bound to MIMO-OFDM, by applying results from Bayesian vector estimation and rate-distortion coding theory. Then we derive the mutual information of a sub-optimum relaying scheme in which the relay applies Karhunen-Loeve transform to the signal received from the source before quantizing it and forwarding it to the destination as a new codeword. Finally, we illustrate by simulations (in an environment similar to IEEE 802.16) the fact that for some scenarios, the C&F approach outperforms other known relaying techniques. This remains true even if the C&F sub-optimum scheme is considered","PeriodicalId":414942,"journal":{"name":"2006 IEEE 7th Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-07-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133696190","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A regularized non-iterative semi-blind estimation of the antenna array coefficients is considered, which employs the autocorrelation matrix estimation as a weighted sum of the autocorrelation matrices estimated over the training and working data intervals. On-line selection of the regularization parameter is proposed. A simple switched selection algorithm is developed based on the constant modulus criterion. It is shown by means of simulations in TDMA and OFDM environments that the adaptive regularization parameter allows significant performance improvement compared to any fixed regularization parameter in a wide range of the asynchronous interference scenario parameters","PeriodicalId":414942,"journal":{"name":"2006 IEEE 7th Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications","volume":"102 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-07-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131865220","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed method exploits the precoding-induced linear signal structure in the conjugate cross-correlation between the two temporal block receive signals as well as the circulant channel matrix property, and can yield exact solutions whenever the channel noise is circularly Gaussian and the receive data statistic is perfectly obtained. The channel estimation formulation builds on rearranging the set of linear equations relating the entries of conjugate cross-correlation matrix and products of channel impulse responses into one with a distinctive block-circulant with circulant-block (BCCB) structure. This allows a simple identifiability condition depending on precoder parameters alone, and also provides a natural yet effective optimal precoder design framework against imperfect data estimation. We consider the data mismatch as a deterministic perturbation and propose to minimize the condition number of the BCCB system matrix, leading to a simple closed-form optimal solution. Numerical examples are used to illustrate the performance of the proposed method","PeriodicalId":414942,"journal":{"name":"2006 IEEE 7th Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications","volume":"120 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-07-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132221249","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In conventional CP-SC systems, the cyclic prefix is discarded at the receiver side. This suboptimal strategy allows simple frequency domain equalization. In this paper, a new CP-SC receiver exploiting the whole received signal (including the cyclic prefix) for data estimation is proposed. With reasonable additional complexity, the proposed architecture outperforms the conventional CP-SC receiver, in terms of bit error rate. A basis expansion model (BEM) approach is used to capture the time variation of the channel within each OFDM block, and to reduce the estimator dimensionality. Capitalizing on the BEM structure and on a frequency domain training, two adaptive approaches are proposed, based on Kalman filtering and recursive least squares (LS) methods, which exploit the time correlation of the channel between successive blocks and do not require any a-priori knowledge of the channel statistics. Simulation results show that, compared to classical least squares and statistically-aided linear minimum mean squared error (LMMSE) approaches, the two proposed techniques effectively estimate the channel, adapt fast to its non stationary changes, thus enabling efficient TV channel equalization of the inter-carrier interference (ICI) induced in OFDM systems by high Doppler spreads","PeriodicalId":414942,"journal":{"name":"2006 IEEE 7th Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-07-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129750256","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
