Different monitoring tasks are being used in WSN and for that; in order to acquire the best performance is needed to focus in an essential parameter that is the node localization. This paper studies the localization issue based on three existing algorithms, and gives insights of a new algorithm for sensor localization. This new algorithm is based on the advantages of other three existing algorithms, knowledge this gained from the simulations results. Our proposed algorithm aims to improve the network convergence, energy saving, and scalability for the WSN.","PeriodicalId":414838,"journal":{"name":"2014 49th International Universities Power Engineering Conference (UPEC)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130718836","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although having a high power factor, the input current of the device is not a perfect sinusoidal waveform, which will not represent a negative aspect, but will have a positive effect on the local grid by obtaining, at a point of common coupling, a higher overall power factor and lower harmonic distortions. The results are compared with those of a perfect sinusoidal input current device, at the same rated power, obtained with an incandescent lamp.","PeriodicalId":414838,"journal":{"name":"2014 49th International Universities Power Engineering Conference (UPEC)","volume":"91 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134432868","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

All these applications consume enormous amounts of energy which result in a significant increase in energy inefficiency problems. One of the causes of Data Center energy inefficiency power distribution is from the uninterruptible power supply (UPS). The UPS system is an alternate or backup source of power linking between mains power supply and end critical loads in order to provide back-up power and protection for the sensitive load. This study attempts to answer the question of how can future UPS topology and technology improve the efficiency of Data Center. In order to analyze the impact of different UPS technologies and their operating efficiencies, a model for a medium size Data Centre is developed, and load schedules and worked schematics were created to analyze and test the components of each of the UPS system topologies.","PeriodicalId":414838,"journal":{"name":"2014 49th International Universities Power Engineering Conference (UPEC)","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114286147","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Energy storage is a vital component of the smart grids that are currently being built around the world. These grids are designed to improve the reliability of electricity transmission and distribution, facilitate the integration of renewable energy generators and allow long - distance trading of electricity supplies. The efficiency of the power supplied by the renewable energy sources can be maximized when paired with an energy storage system. In this framework, current paper is addressing the issues of batteries capacity, prices and reliability. In the first section, a general analysis was performed, aimed at accurately identifying the current state-of-the art of storage systems. An example was designed, starting from a real electric distribution system, in order to create an array of possible issues and solutions which will be further scrutinized.","PeriodicalId":414838,"journal":{"name":"2014 49th International Universities Power Engineering Conference (UPEC)","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132232235","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular, single-line to ground, double-line to ground, line-line, HVDC transmission line (dc link) and load side inverter faults are examined. A complete model of a 12-pulse LCC-HVDC system together with an ANN algorithm is modeled in numerical simulation software. The output of the ANN can predict the change in appropriate firing angle required for the HVDC rectifier unit under steady state normal operation and various fault conditions. A set of simulation results are provided to show the effectiveness of the ANN technique subjected to developed fault conditions.","PeriodicalId":414838,"journal":{"name":"2014 49th International Universities Power Engineering Conference (UPEC)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134009289","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Power and ground planes, knows as two parallel planes are widely used in printed circuit boards. In PDN design, already exists dedicated software that help the PI engineer to design a PDN according to the necessities. Using PSPICE, the planes of arbitrary shape can be modeled efficiently along with the circuit components connected to the planes. The goal of this paper is to introduce different parameterized PI SPICE platforms, based on the finite difference method that helps a PI engineer to analyze a PDN in both frequency and time domain.","PeriodicalId":414838,"journal":{"name":"2014 49th International Universities Power Engineering Conference (UPEC)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133046543","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Apart from the controllable power flow function of HVDC systems, advanced controllers can be employed to extend their functionality for dynamic and transient stability improvement of AC systems. As an attempt to improve the influence of HVDC technology on AC system stability, this paper proposes a supplementary active power controller for the HVDC system. The Model Predictive Control (MPC) approach is considered for the control design. The design process of weight tuning and parameterization of the MPC controller has been investigated. Additionally the effect of controller model reduction is demonstrated in the presented results.","PeriodicalId":414838,"journal":{"name":"2014 49th International Universities Power Engineering Conference (UPEC)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125446470","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
