The analytical methods used to determine the crystallite stress states which must be generated for the isostress (lower-bound) and isostrain (upper-bound) cases are briefly discussed and then applied to predict yield loci for three cold-rolled, annealed low-carbon steels (enameling iron, aluminum-killed steel, and interstitial-free steel) whose textures were characterized by crystallite orientation distribution functions. While measured r-values correlate best with upper-bound yield loci predictions for enameling iron, those for the aluminum-killed steels show better agreement with lower-bound yield loci predictions. In the case of the interstitial-free steel, measured r-values could not be accounted for by either upper- or lower-bound predictions. The yield loci measurements and predictions are reviewed in the context of Hill's continuum theory.

Proc. of Workshop “Math. Methods of Texture Analysis”, Textures and Microstructures 25, 71–108). It is clear that the orientation distribution function (ODF) and pole figures (PFs) measured for this limited N may differ from actual ones. How well do texture measurements reproduce the actual distribution densities? The statistical relevance of such measurements is the main area of interest in the present paper.

It is supposed \u0000that significant residual stress, work hardening and preferred orientation will be \u0000introduced as well as the plastic flow, and the combination of all of those factors may \u0000cause the fatigue damage to the specimen. In the present study, the mode of plastic \u0000flow and the preferred orientation with respect to the tangential force, or slip at the \u0000contact region were measured. The experimental results were nearly the same for \u0000both laboratory tested disk specimen and a used rail. The distribution of degree of \u0000plastic flow showed good agreement with the work hardening of the flowed region, \u0000besides the mode of plastic flow is nearly the same as the calculated result. The \u0000major texture component at the flowed region was near (111) [11¯0] and near \u0000(111) [112¯] which are the major components of cold rolling texture being formed by \u0000the combination of compressive stress and weak shear stress.

The \u0000microstructures, obtained under these conditions, were studied by means of polarized light \u0000microscopy, both mean and maximum grain sizes were determined. In the colder finer grained \u0000samples (–10℃) the grain size increase during annealing was not as rapid as the coarser hot \u0000worked (–1°) samples. Little textural change was observed in the annealed hot worked samples, \u0000however the strong preferred orientation of the colder samples was destroyed with annealing. \u0000The change in texture corresponded to a decrease in the grain growth rate and the formation \u0000of a stable grain structure. The angular variation of r-value \u0000in the rolling plane was calculated from the ODF coefficients by \u0000means of different models. Comparison with experimental data shows that, \u0000in the case of sharp textures, an intermediate relaxed constraint model \u0000(pancake version) is a better predictor of the plastic strain ratio than the \u0000extreme Taylor or Sachs-Kochendorfer type calculation. This is justified as \u0000being more favorable energetically for the texture components present in \u0000deep drawing steels. The best quantitative agreement is obtained when the \u0000CRSS ratio for glide on the {112} and {110} slip systems is \u00000.95 (except for the AKDQ and IF2 grades, for which values of 0.90 and 1.0, \u0000respectively, are preferred).
