However, while the predictive ability of implied correlation lasts for up to a year, the variance risk premium predicts market returns only for one quarter ahead. Contrary to the accepted view, implied correlation predicts the market return not through a diversification risk (average correlation) channel, but by predicting a concentration of market exposure, which defines the level of non-diversifiable market risk, or systematic diversification. Economy-wide implied correlation built exclusively from option prices of nine sector ETFs and the S&P500 efficiently predicts future market returns and systematic diversification risk in the form of market betas dispersion. Newly developed implied correlations for economic sectors provide industry-related information and are used to extract option-implied risk factors from sector-based covariances.","PeriodicalId":412239,"journal":{"name":"StructuredMarkets Equity Derivatives Journal","volume":"146 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114516169","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This unveils more implicit problems which long-only investors face as well as monitor and control risks, satisfy regulatory requirements while seeking to translate a market anticipation into position in the simplest and the more comprehensible assets they can find to avoid unwanted technical downturn, and optimize their structure of fees.However, with a wide range of eligible asset classes, and under a diversification purpose, the portfolio optimization problem is often exceeded, including the aim of enhance yields in accordance with the portfolio structure and levels of hedging. This can be particularly relevant when traditional assets deliver a shifted conception of performance, meaning stocks can be invested for dividend yield and bonds for rate curve movements, and when volatility spikes obstruct a market long-term vision. This paper aims to introduce Exchange Traded Funds and structured notes as equity yield enhancement products, by presenting and confronting characteristics an investor have to focus when he seeks to find the product likely to match his needs.","PeriodicalId":412239,"journal":{"name":"StructuredMarkets Equity Derivatives Journal","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127382636","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Leveraged ETF providers counter that the funds are too small to make a meaningful impact on volatility. For the period surrounding the financial crisis, 2006–11, we show that end-of-day volatility was positively and statistically significantly correlated with the ratio of potential rebalancing trades to total trading volume. The impacts were not all economically significant, but largest during the most volatile days. Given the predictable pattern of leveraged ETF hedging demands, implications for predatory trading are explored.","PeriodicalId":412239,"journal":{"name":"StructuredMarkets Equity Derivatives Journal","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-10-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129787074","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We claim that the standard initial condition, which assigns some fixed value to the stochastic volatility subprocess, is illogical and greatly underestimates the effect of the hidden variable. For instance, a stochastic volatility model generates a significantly weaker implied volatility smile at short maturities. A good initial condition should specify the distribution of the hidden variable instead of a particular fixed value. The most straightforward way of initializing a hidden variable is by specifying its equilibrium distribution, which assumes that this component of the multifactor process has been started well before the observable part. As a practical example, the Heston model is considered.","PeriodicalId":412239,"journal":{"name":"StructuredMarkets Equity Derivatives Journal","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-10-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128367723","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We use the Johansen cointegration test to examine the long-run equilibrium relationship in both multivariate and bivariate contexts. The VECM model is used to examine the information transmission in the short-run. Finally, we use Granger causality test to investigate how the information transmission pattern changes under different economic conditions. We find long-run equilibrium relationships between spot and futures prices in the Chinese markets, as well as the futures prices in China and the US. The long-run relationship is consistent with the LOP theory, which indicates that prices of identical assets in different markets should have the same stream of future cash flows after all adjustments. The short-run analyses show the robust bidirectional relationship between futures and spot prices in China, and the futures prices in China and the US. The findings indicate that Chinese agricultural commodity futures played a significant role in the global commodity futures markets. The GFC subsample results are mixed. In general, the domestic information becomes more important compared to the information in the international markets during the crisis and post crisis periods. Whereas, the US futures markets play important price discovery role than Chinese ones during and after crisis in the bivariate context. The findings of this study contribute to the existing literature on information transmission in agriculture commodity markets in the emerging nations by including the futures markets in China and the futures markets of USA, which is a global dominant market. Study also includes the underlying asset market to provide the relationship among all three asset markets. The findings of this study may have important implication for policy makers in emerging markets who seek to develop policies for stability of the commodity prices.","PeriodicalId":412239,"journal":{"name":"StructuredMarkets Equity Derivatives Journal","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-08-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123613214","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we show how to price basket options when the underlying asset prices follow a displaced log-normal process with jumps, capable of accommodating negative skewness and excess kurtosis. Our technique involves Hermite polynomial expansion that can match exactly the first m moments of the model-implied basket return. This method is shown to provide superior results for basket options not only with respect to pricing but also for hedging.","PeriodicalId":412239,"journal":{"name":"StructuredMarkets Equity Derivatives Journal","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114265324","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular, options with zero strikes were quoted with non-zero prices. This led to the requirement to model and interpret option prices for negative strikes. In this note, irrespective of the asset classes, we provide a standardization technique for market call prices and derive the no-arbitrage properties that allow for negative strikes and forwards. Our approach works with non-deterministic discounting rates and multiple discounting curves that are increasingly becoming standard.","PeriodicalId":412239,"journal":{"name":"StructuredMarkets Equity Derivatives Journal","volume":"63 8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128726288","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The trading activity increases substantially around earnings announcements. Aggregated individual investor trading is strongly correlated, both pre- and post event. We find intense aggregate positive positioning ahead of earnings announcements, irrespective of the direction of the subsequent earnings surprise. Thus, individual investors are subject to an \"optimism bias\". The risk appetite of individual investors increases in the run-up to earnings announcements. We find that neither pre-event risk appetite nor pre-event imbalances can be attributed to informed trading. We attribute the increased risk appetite to investor overconfidence. Overall, individual investor trading in leverage products is not particularly skillful.","PeriodicalId":412239,"journal":{"name":"StructuredMarkets Equity Derivatives Journal","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-08-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127048123","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is a quantitative tool to help the manager make a decision regarding ranking of funds and allocating capital between them for the next few months (for example, for the next quarter) where the available information/data is limited to daily returns for a relatively short time period (for example, the ending quarter). This new adaptive algorithm comes in line with those computational methods that fill the gap between more sophisticated approaches (that need more information/data available and more powerful cluster of the analytic computing procedures) and non-numerical Laplacian approach (where capital is allocated more or less equally between all funds that did not fail in a previous quarter).","PeriodicalId":412239,"journal":{"name":"StructuredMarkets Equity Derivatives Journal","volume":"115 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-02-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124355874","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
