Thirteen isolates of Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. dianthi inciting vascular wilt of carnation were evaluated for their molecular characterization using random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPDPCR). The isolates were categorized based on the morphological characteristics, produced colonies with circular pattern growth. However, differences were obtained in colony colour, shape and size of conidia. The 5.8S-rDNA of ITS region was amplified the specific amplicon size of 398 bp which confirmed the pathogen as Fusarium oxysporum. The molecular polymorphism among isolates were analysed by means of RAPD-PCR and the genetic coefficient matrix derived from the scores of RAPD profile showed that minimum and maximum per cent similarities and diversity among isolates were in the range of 70 to 96 per cent, respectively. The cluster analysis by un-weighted pair-group method with arithmetic average (UPGMA), separated the isolates into four clusters which confirming the genetic diversity among isolates.","PeriodicalId":411017,"journal":{"name":"INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF FORESTRY AND CROP IMPROVEMENT","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129376826","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The results showed that PCV values in general was higher than GCV for various characters studied. The high PCV and GCV values was obtained for single plant yield followed by number of productive tillers per plant and low PCV and GCV was observed for plant height and panicle length. The small difference observed between GCV and PCV indicate the presence of high genetic variability for the traits which may facilitate selection. The traits thousand grain weight and number of fertile spikelet per panicle and single plant yield had high heritability along with high genetic advance as per cent of mean indicate that these characters attributable to additive gene effects which are fixable revealing that improvement in these characters would be possible through direct selection.","PeriodicalId":411017,"journal":{"name":"INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF FORESTRY AND CROP IMPROVEMENT","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115302682","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The so developed ‘Om kit-Part-I’ was released in Krishimela 2010 of UAS, Dharwad. Trials have been conducted during 2009-10, 2010-11 and 2011-12 at KVK, Sirsi (Uttar Kannada district) and during 2011-12 and 2012-13 at KVK, Hanumanamatti (Haveri district). Universal indicator is also available in the market as a ready product. Hence, production of such liquid was tried with available indicators suitable for specific ranges. The combinations were tried. The result is the DHUN indicator. The production of equipment was tried with available electrical devices with standard EC solutions suitable for specific ranges. The combinations were tried. The result is the SLIM stick. The salinity measurement is through this SLIM stick (Salinity Light Intensity Monitor stick). Ranjan Kumar Basak’s soil testing methods were modified and brought into this kit method which clearly indicates the per cent of organic matter in soil very easily and quickly. It gives colour development (Orange yellow, olive green and bluish green for low, medium and high organic matter levels).","PeriodicalId":411017,"journal":{"name":"INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF FORESTRY AND CROP IMPROVEMENT","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131807744","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Ground water samples were collected from twenty four villages in Perur taluk. In each village two samples were collected from two different bore wells. The water samples were collected from the bore wells with the depth range from 200 ft to 800 ft. Chemical parameters namely, pH, electrical conductivity (EC), total dissolved solids (TDS), chlorides, hardness, iron, phosphates, nitrates, sulphates and arsenic were analyzed using standard protocol. The results were compared with water quality standards given by World Health Organization (WHO). The ground waters of eight locations namely Sundakkamuthur, Vedapatti, Komarapalayam, Madvarayapuram, Veera Keralam, Jagirnaicken palayam, Puluvapatti and Vadavalli are well within the water quality standards for drinking and irrigation purpose. Whereas the ground waters of remaining sixteen locations of Perur are not suitable for drinking but it can be used for irrigation purpose. With respect to arsenic poisoning, ground water samples of all the twenty four locations of Perur are well within the permissible limit.","PeriodicalId":411017,"journal":{"name":"INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF FORESTRY AND CROP IMPROVEMENT","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128045414","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper highlighted agroforestry practices and concepts in sustainable land use systems. The benefit derivable from the interface between forest trees and agricultural crops are enormous. They include the optimal use of land for both agricultural and forestry production on a sustainable basis including the improvement of the quality of soil. This is in addition to the socio-economic benefits that are accruable from agroforestry. Indeed the advantage of agroforestry is all encompassing and germane to a sustainable production system and livelihood.","PeriodicalId":411017,"journal":{"name":"INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF FORESTRY AND CROP IMPROVEMENT","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128976869","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
