Gunkan Island features a number of important modern industrial heritage facilities and RC (reinforced concrete) buildings, and for this reason it has been gaining attention as a cultural asset and touristic resource. This island was expanded six times since the Meiji Era, and the revetment is between 82 and 116 years old. Maintaining the revetment in a suitable state is important for preserving the island.
