In this field a developed issue is the study to perceive one's visual vertical. But there is no agreement in the measurement apparatus and protocol for this investigation in the different centers working in this area. In this paper it is proposed a software with the same propose as the usual mechanical apparatus used to visual excitation during equilibrium evaluation. This software can be easily used in different places, and will help to improve the patterns of the evaluation protocols in all clinics and research centers.","PeriodicalId":409380,"journal":{"name":"2006 3rd IEEE/EMBS International Summer School on Medical Devices and Biosensors","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115436622","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this approach, compression of ECG is done in real-time by the mobile phone for the very first time. The fast and effective compression scheme, designed for the proposed telemonitoring system, outperforms most of the real-time lossless ECG compression algorithms. This mobile phone based computation platform is a promising solution for privacy issues in telemonitoring through encryptions. Moreover, the mobile phones used in this platform performs preliminary detection of abnormal biosignal in realtime. Apart from the usage of mobile phones, this platform supports background biosignal abnormality surveillance using data mining agent.","PeriodicalId":409380,"journal":{"name":"2006 3rd IEEE/EMBS International Summer School on Medical Devices and Biosensors","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117268362","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Monitoring of the pupil's properties is a feasible alternative application, as it has the advantages of non-invasive and non-contact measurement, as well as feasible implementation using wearable image sensors. Recent researches have discovered the presence of heart rate variability (HRV) and blood pressure variability (BPV) frequency components in pupil size variability (PSV). Aims of this study are to investigate effect of physical exercise on PSV spectrum, and to address the feasibility of PSV monitoring. Electrocardiogram, respiration effort, finger arterial pressure, and pupil images were recorded from ten subjects before and after exercise. Normalized high frequency (0.15-0.5 Hz) power of PSV in seven subjects and total (0.04-0.5 Hz) power of PSV in nine subjects decreased after exercise, followed by an increase during recovery. The patterns of changes are generally paralleled by corresponding indexes from spectra of HRV and BPV. Preliminary results suggest that PSV has the potential to be a novel physiological indicator used in patient-monitoring.","PeriodicalId":409380,"journal":{"name":"2006 3rd IEEE/EMBS International Summer School on Medical Devices and Biosensors","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131362620","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper first investigates the bioeffects caused by radiofrequency transmission of sensor node, including thermal effects and athermal effects. The bioeffects model is studied in both near-field and far-field, in relation to specific absorption rate (SAR). A bioeffects metric is then proposed to evaluate the adverse biological effects. After identifying the factors that can reduce the adverse health effects in the communication system we propose a game theoretic model of distributed power control to analyze bioeffects for the system. The bioeffects cost function is introduced to the network utility as a metric to evaluate the performance of wireless body sensor networks in terms of health effect consideration. The two main contributions of this work are that a normalized bioeffects metric, equivalent coefficient-of-absorption-and-bioeffects (CAB), is introduced to evaluate and design the communication protocols, and a novel game theoretic power control model is employed to balance the bioeffects for CDMA-based wireless body sensor networks.","PeriodicalId":409380,"journal":{"name":"2006 3rd IEEE/EMBS International Summer School on Medical Devices and Biosensors","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132012859","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The secrets of pulse diagnosis have been partially explained by anatomy and hemodynamic analysis in contemporary western medicine. Now it is possible to obtain pulsatile blood flow signals by means of various mechanical, photoelectrical, and acoustic transducers. Meanwhile, with the introduction of advanced signal processing methods, pulsatile blood flow signals have exhibited great potentials to reveal intrinsic pathophysiological condition of cardiovascular system. Therefore, sphygmogram analyzers based on pulse signal monitoring and analysis have been proposed for health prognosis of cardiovascular system in home health monitoring. This paper is aimed to review methods and systems for pulse signal monitoring and analysis in a tutorial manner.","PeriodicalId":409380,"journal":{"name":"2006 3rd IEEE/EMBS International Summer School on Medical Devices and Biosensors","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124813422","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

So, walking has gotten a lot of attention as a prevention method. Pedometer is often used in walking. Recently, pedometer calculates energy expenditure from number of steps and their weight. But, there is not pedometer which calculated energy expenditure from consider the walking involved with slope. So in this study, we use only one three-axis acceleration sensor. And we proposed the estimate activity algorithm to analysis of data from sensor. For evaluation experiment 50 data were collected from 10 healthy subjects. The system consists of an unobtrusive wireless body area network (WBAN) and a home health server. The WBAN sensors monitor user's heart rate and locomotive activity and periodically upload time-stamped information to the home server. The home server may integrate this information into a local database for user's inspection or it may forward the information further to a medical server. The prototype may be used for ambulatory monitoring of patients undergoing cardiac rehabilitation or for monitoring of elderly at home by informal caregivers.","PeriodicalId":409380,"journal":{"name":"2006 3rd IEEE/EMBS International Summer School on Medical Devices and Biosensors","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124587440","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
