In some cases, too many redundant or irrelevant features may overpower main features for classification. Feature selection can remedy this problem and therefore improve the prediction accuracy and reduce the computational overhead of classification algorithms. The main aim of feature selection is to determine a minimal feature subset from a problem domain while retaining a suitably high accuracy in representing the original features. In this paper, Principal Component Analysis (PCA), Rough PCA, Unsupervised Quick Reduct (USQR) algorithm and Empirical Distribution Ranking (EDR) approaches are applied to discover discriminative features that will be the most adequate ones for classification. Efficiency of the approaches is evaluated using standard classification metrics.","PeriodicalId":408180,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Computing, Communication and Applications","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-06-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130683115","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

ROI of a test image is extracted first. Based on statistical parameters a departure warning is generated. Hough transform is used to detect the lines in the segmented ROI. Distance between Hough origin and lane-line midpoint is estimated. Based on the difference between these distances, a lane departure decision is made. A typical road may have multiple lanes which may cause difficulty in generating appropriate departure decision with good accuracy and in short time. Experiments show that the proposed algorithm eliminates this problem. It is simple to implement and robust, and can detect the lane markings accurately and quickly.","PeriodicalId":408180,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Computing, Communication and Applications","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115043027","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Low bit rate voice communication has become essential to many applications like digital radio, satellite communication, underwater acoustic communication etc. where bandwidth is at a premium and voice intelligibility is imperative. The hardware circuit of VCM is designed using FPGA instead of following the traditional DSPs/Microcontrollers approach so as to fulfill the objective of designing all the major subsystems of voice/data communication baseband unit inside a single FPGA chip. The Codec AD73311 used is a high performance A/D & D/A chip with programmable input and output gain control, and AMBE-2000 is the vocoder which is based on the AMBE compression algorithm. Using this VCM, the call voice is clear and legible at the rate of 2.0~2.4 Kbps which is very low compression bit rate.","PeriodicalId":408180,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Computing, Communication and Applications","volume":"97 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115527187","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, a medical diagnosis system is presented for predicting the risk of cardiovascular disease. This system is built by combining the relative advantages of genetic algorithm and neural network. Multilayered feed forward neural networks are particularly suited to complex classification problems. The weights of the neural network are determined using genetic algorithm because it finds acceptably good set of weights in less number of iterations. The dataset provided by University of California, Irvine (UCI) machine learning repository is used for training and testing. It consists of 303 instances of heart disease data each having 14 attributes including the class label. First, the dataset is preprocessed in order to make them suitable for training. Genetic based neural network is used for training the system. The final weights of the neural network are stored in the weight base and are used for predicting the risk of cardiovascular disease. The classification accuracy obtained using this approach is 94.17%.","PeriodicalId":408180,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Computing, Communication and Applications","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133873484","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Cognitive radio (CR) technology is defined to solve the problems in wireless networks resulting from the limited available spectrum and the inefficiency in the spectrum usage by sharing the existing wireless spectrum opportunistically. In cognitive radio ad hoc networks (CRAHNs), the distributed multi-hop architecture, the dynamic network topology, and the time and location varying spectrum availability are some of the key distinguishing factors. OFDM multicarrier communication technique is chosen in Cognitive Radio Networks due to its inherent capability of transmission and reception in variable bandwidth and in multiple chunks of subcarriers called sub channels. In this paper, non contiguous OFDM subcarriers placed within the dynamic guard bands based always-on, dedicated out-of-band common control channel (CCC) design is proposed for efficient spectrum utilization. Our proposed CCC design is to ensure the spectrum sharing, network connectivity, efficient data rate of CR users and dynamic guard bands when compared to cluster based and sequence based CCC design.","PeriodicalId":408180,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Computing, Communication and Applications","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133575972","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents a new approach of GENCOs profit based unit commitment using SFLA technique in a day ahead competitive electricity markets. Profit-based UC formulation considers the softer demand constraint and allocates fixed and transitional costs to the scheduled hours. Deregulation is unbundling of vertically integrated power system into generation (GENCOs), transmission (TRANSCOs) and distribution companies (DISCOs). Deregulation in power sector increases the efficiency of electricity production and distribution, offer lower prices, higher quality, secure, more reliable product and also it has the advantage that customers are allowed to choose their suppliers. This technique achieved great challenges for the power industry and thus an individual human can take their own decision by choosing the reliable continuous supply of power from the electricity markets at an affordable price. Under restructured system, GENeration COmpanies schedules their generators with the objective of maximizing their profit. This proposed algorithm is for a small unit test system with 10 units 24 hour data and the simulations are carried out to show the performance of proposed methodology using MATLAB software. It is observed from the simulation results that the proposed algorithm provides maximum profit with less computational time compared to existing techniques.","PeriodicalId":408180,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Computing, Communication and Applications","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115593523","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
