Defects in stator winding and in magnet core are determined before repair on the basis of double-coordinate on-line discharge events location. Full information about ground wall semiconductivity layer in bars, slot discharges, sparking between plates in magnet core are provided by generators measurements operating load from Wmin. to Wmax. Defect diagnostics have affirmed the forecasted failures: 1) migrating iron particles were detected through location and were registered protractedly by in-service installed continuum monitoring system for TG; 2) sparking in core located; 3) partial discharges (PD) located; 4) slot discharges located. Here asymmetrical states of a doubly-fed induction machine, as for example a turn-to-turn fault, are modeled and simulated in state space with hybrid machine equations. These equations are reduced in order of less computation effort. To detect rotor turn-to-turn faults of the doubly-fed induction machine a Luenberger observer is developed and investigated by simulation. These techniques may provide, in certain situations (unbalance supply voltages, load torque oscillations…), substantial advantages in comparison with the classical method, based on the Fourier spectrum of the steady-state current. Nevertheless, these transient-based techniques have been mainly focused on the tracing of the left sideband harmonics (LSH) introduced by the asymmetry. In this paper, Wigner-Ville distributions are applied to the detection of other high-order components introduced by the asymmetry. Their detection might help to reach a more reliable diagnosis conclusion in cases in which the tracing of the LSH may be difficult (inter-bar currents, load torque oscillations…). They usually involve supplying a single phase or two series-connected phases. An ideal machine should present the same behavior at all terminals, while in an actual machine non-idealities alter the response to the signals. Some techniques to state machine condition during self-commission procedures based on the parameter values discrepancies or on the response to particular signals injected have been proposed. This paper investigates the effect of the different asymmetries on the usual self-commissioning procedures and the further possibilities given by the machine supply through the digitally controlled inverter. It is shown that, even at standstill, it is possible to detect and state the severity of some fault conditions of the machine. Voltage unbalance produces power oscillations at twice the supply frequency, which introduces, in turn, torque oscillations and vibrations at this frequency. The dependence of these power oscillations on the unbalance level and motor load is analyzed by simulation. The effects of voltage unbalance on the oscillation of motor power, torque and vibrations are extensively analyzed through experimental results. This paper presents a characterization of rotor faults for such a motor due to local and uniform demagnetization by means of two dimensional (2-D) Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and proposes a new non-invasive method for their detection by means of a Fourier transform of the back-EMF. Kapton films and coated wires were subjected to an accelerated aging under combined stresses (VRMS, frequency, DC voltage, and temperature). Samples life time measurements allowed us classify the parameters with respect to their influence order. Frequency shift from 1 to 10 kHz is more hazardous than a voltage shift from 0.7 to 1.2 kV or a temperature shift from 150 to 200°C. Adding a DC voltage as 200V increased the sample life time. Rotor fault distorts the magnetic symmetry and subsequently deteriorates the steady-state and dynamic performance. As fast speed control loop compensates for the unevenly distribution of the field, the inverter supply voltage is adjusted accordingly. The modulated supply voltage pattern is then analyzed and its average duty cycle is determined. When broken rotor bars are present, specific oscillations in the average duty cycle arise. The presence of these oscillations is sufficient for a successful detection. The computation is performed using simple mathematics and demands no significant computational power.
