At the gatherings, scholars discussed topics relating to the new urban citizen’s role in transforming the welfare state, participatory urban citizenship, of discourses and spatialities of social disintegration and cohesion. These exchanges grew into the articles presented in this theme issue. In this issue, Hoai Anh Tran and Yvonne Rydin present a discourse analysis of the planning document or ‘vision programme’ for Norra Sorgenfri, Jorge Martin Sainz de los Terreros examines Malmo in a photo essay and critical visual ethnography, while Berndt Clavier and Asko Kauppinen discuss the technologies of governmentality in localised art projects supported by the state.","PeriodicalId":40291,"journal":{"name":"SCANDINAVICA","volume":"38 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77517880","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"文学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Attention has particularly focused on the more spectacular developments such as the regeneration of the Western Harbour, and the development of Hyllie, a major transport interchange and new commercial centre alongside residential development. The focus of this paper is away from these major developments and instead looks at Norra Sorgenfri, a former industrial site, presented as a new form of sustainable urban development that moves away from the spectacular and focuses on everyday life. Here we analyse the representations of the city and urban living that are constituted by the planning vision for Norra Sorgenfri and particularly consider the role that urban forms are attributed within this vision.Our analysis highlights the ideas and representations of sustainable urban development with a focus on social sustainability and situates them within the existing literature looking at representations of urban development and urban sustainability within Malmo.","PeriodicalId":40291,"journal":{"name":"SCANDINAVICA","volume":"19 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80548154","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"文学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Through a comparative analysis of these texts and with the help of the concepts of ‘cultural appropriation’ and ‘mobility’, this article demonstrates how both Lagerof and Kinck engaged creatively with the literary forms of their choice – the legend and the novella, respectively – in the attempt to create new images of a country already so written about. While drawing on the Romantic myth of a cultured and idyllic Italy perpetuated by the Grand Tour tradition, Lagerof’s and Kinck’s stories bring a fresh perspective by combining tradition with modern debates around social, political and gender issues.","PeriodicalId":40291,"journal":{"name":"SCANDINAVICA","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87490740","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"文学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
