OFDMA macro-femtocell network is an interference limited capacity performance system due to the cross-tier and co-tier interference. Previous research works provide some approaches based on spectrum partitioning or spectrum sharing and interference management without considering user mobility. In this paper, we propose a spectrum sharing approach with interference mitigation and its performance analysis taking into account macro user mobility. By means of Linear Programming model, our solution aims to maximize the network throughput. Moreover, power adaptation is implemented to reduce the interference and to achieve the QoS requirements. The proposed solution: (1) determines the best serving base station, and (2) selects subcarriers and their respective transmitted power for downlink transmissions taking into the users' locations and demands in any given period. Simulations were conducted to show a comparison of the proposed model with spectrum partitioning and spectrum sharing with macro users prioritization.","PeriodicalId":398906,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Selected Topics in Mobile and Wireless Networking (MoWNeT)","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124259358","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper looks at how with hidden, unobservable conditions, probabilistic graphical models (PGMs) can be used to successfully predict which networks resources are better suited to recover from a fault. This results in having a self-healing function that does not require extensive backhaul signaling to operate. The paper first shows how temporal PGMs can be used in the context of fault detection and then extends its proposals to the self-healing realm. The results show how in a majority of cases it is feasible to predict basic characteristics of user distribution and load in a failed site and use this information to determine a path to fault compensation.","PeriodicalId":398906,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Selected Topics in Mobile and Wireless Networking (MoWNeT)","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132041120","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As often being considered as a precondition for the realization of the Internet of Things (IoT) RFID can be utilized in the vehicles, so as to make the vehicles identifiable and inventoriable by computers as long as they are fitted out with radio tags. One of the public concerns is likely to focus on a certain large number of security and privacy issues. Various light symmetric key management schemes will be proposed for different RFID scenarios. In order to perform a reliable and trusted authentication, one prerequisite is to ensure the credibility of RFIDs by means of digital certificate validation. We propose a certificate revocation status validation scheme called EKA2, using the concept of clustering from data mining to evaluate the trustiness of digital certificates.","PeriodicalId":398906,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Selected Topics in Mobile and Wireless Networking (MoWNeT)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123277486","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

M2M communication over 4G networks faces some challenges. The main challenge is how to accommodate the massive number of M2M devices without negatively impacting the human subscribers' Quality of Experience (QoE). This paper discusses the challenges of scheduling UEs and M2M terminals in LTE networks. The LTE scheduler plays an important role in distributing radio resources to user equipments (UEs) and M2M terminals. We present a hybrid uplink scheduler that balances the radio resources allocation to preserve human users QoE and fairly fulfills M2M terminals communication requests. The simulation results show that the proposed solution provides fair scheduling of M2M terminals without impacting the UE.","PeriodicalId":398906,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Selected Topics in Mobile and Wireless Networking (MoWNeT)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114062014","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It requires careful attention from all service providers since it affects the cost and the performance of the network and its services. In order to be able to plan a good network, the traffic provided for network planning has to include as many realistic parameters as possible. Previous network planning approaches tend to collect measurements regardless of how time consuming it is considered, while others find it easier to assume or predict values. The main objective of this paper is to introduce a traffic model that considers different realistic parameters that can be used for the planning of LTE networks. To that end, a set of equations is proposed to generate reasonable traffic profiles while considering various practical aspects such as signaling, bandwidth, busy hour session attempts and number of simultaneous bearers.","PeriodicalId":398906,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Selected Topics in Mobile and Wireless Networking (MoWNeT)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115738386","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The duration of any particular download session is highly dependent on the capacity of the node servers selected as source peers. Recent investigations have shown that specific total download times may deviate significantly from average total download times. Typical algorithms used in today's Peer-to-Peer (P2P) systems have evolved from simply connecting to a single source peer for the entire download session to an approach where the download content is divided into chunks and a randomly selected source peer is chosen as the source for each chunk. Prior work has demonstrated that it is better to divide the download session into time slices and download as much as possible from a randomly selected source peer within each time interval rather than staying connected to a poorly performing source peer. The algorithm described in this investigation uses time-based source peer switching and maintains a small number of parallel download streams. At the end of each time interval, it does not randomly replace all source peers but keeps those source peers that are performing relatively better and replaces those performing relatively poorly with randomly selected new source partners. In this way, as the download progresses, parallel downloading typically progresses to a set of better and better performing source partners, therefore reducing average download times and reducing overall variance between download times. This approach has been shown in simulations to significantly reduce average download times. These improvements are gained while maintaining or further limiting the variance in performance between download sessions.","PeriodicalId":398906,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Selected Topics in Mobile and Wireless Networking (MoWNeT)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114719595","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this approach, a part of inter-eNodeB handovers of user equipments (UEs) are managed by control nodes in the backhaul in contrast to the standard LTE, where such handovers are exclusively handled by the EPC. For this purpose, we utilize the concept of software-defined networking (SDN) and OpenFlow protocol to realize control nodes for the backhaul network, which facilitate implementation of sophisticated traffic management schemes. We present the architecture and associated protocols, and evaluate the performance gains and scalability of our proposed scheme. We find that the proposed scheme considerably reduces the mobility-related signaling load to EPC. Additionally, the use of SDN/OpenFlow eliminates the need for conventional mobility tunnels, which results in improving the efficiency of data transport in the network.","PeriodicalId":398906,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Selected Topics in Mobile and Wireless Networking (MoWNeT)","volume":"48 11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124971944","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the propagation of the radiofrequency signals in indoor environments is subject to fading induced by shadowing effect and multipath propagation. Accurate wireless location estimation can be achieved by employing multiple antennas. In this paper, we make a comparison among three system models in order to show the impact of using multiple antennas on position accuracy at either the transmitter, the receiver side or at the both sides. We use the multilateration as well as the trilateration algorithms to calculate the position error. The obtained results illustrate that the localization performance is improved when using multiple antennas. Specifically, using multiple antennas at the both sides present better performance than using multiple antennas at either the transmitter or the receiver.","PeriodicalId":398906,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Selected Topics in Mobile and Wireless Networking (MoWNeT)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130600891","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
