Therefore, transient performance of turbofan engines has to be considered when designing the engine. A setup for the experimental irivestigation of transient performance and unsteady flow phenomena on a turbofan engine is presented. A procedure for measuring transient pressures with conventional pressure probes is established as well as a method for measuring unsteady temperatures with thermocouples. Ikliniature pressure transducers are incorporated in the: compressors of the engine in order to detect very fast pressure changes. A complex computer system for means of engine control, monitoring and high speed data acquisition was built up. The system was used to evaluate the transient performance characteristics of the two-spool turbofan engine Larzac 04.","PeriodicalId":398832,"journal":{"name":"International Congress on Instrumentation in Aerospace Simulation Facilities,","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-09-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129579711","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A detailed experimental programme or work is described in which large scale aerodynamic models of potential probe geometries have been tested at representative Reynolds numbers and a range of pitch and yaw configurations. The construction of small scale fast response aerdynamic probes is detailed , and calibration results obtained with these at a variety of Mach and Reynolds number conditions are given. INTRODUCTiON Pneumatic aerodynamic probes have been used for several decades in turbomachinery related research in order to determine fluid flow total and static pressures. Combination type probes have enabled flow Mach number and direction to bedetermined in two dimensions using mcasurements taken from three ports. Careful calibration of the probe, in terms of sensitivity to Mach and Reynolds number, is carried out in some form of aerodynamic calibration facility, where the effects of flow pitch and yaw on the measured acroydnamic coefficients aredctcrmincd. The probe is then introduced into the experiment where. measurements of llow quantities are required.","PeriodicalId":398832,"journal":{"name":"International Congress on Instrumentation in Aerospace Simulation Facilities,","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-09-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124013668","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For the first time the PIV technique allows the recording of a complete velocity field in a plane of the flow within microseconds. This does not only give information about unsteady flow fields otherwise not obtainable but also helps to save operational time in the wind tunnel. At DLR a set up for PIV has been developed which can be operated under the rough environmental conditions (noise, vibrations) of a large wind tunnel. This system has been successfully applied to low speed as well as to high speed flows (U = 10. 500 m/s). The evaluation and post processing of the PIV recordings run fully automatical on a workstation.","PeriodicalId":398832,"journal":{"name":"International Congress on Instrumentation in Aerospace Simulation Facilities,","volume":"2011 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-09-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123821362","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
