In order to extract the homogenous and edge regions from the image, a spatial filtering approach and Canny filter were used. A novel method called support vector selection and adaptation (SVSA) was used in classification of earthquake damage. Pixel and texture-based classification were separately carried out in order to show their comparative classification performance. For implementation, a small region from city of Bam in Iran was selected.","PeriodicalId":397384,"journal":{"name":"2010 International Conference of Soft Computing and Pattern Recognition","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121053688","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The online framework detects automatically the hands and the face of the user based on depth and color information. To estimate the spatial position and the joints of fingers a 3D hand model was generated. We used the Iterative Closest Point (ICP) algorithm to calculate the distance error between the model and 3D input data. In addition a separation and evaluation of hand and fingertip movements was implemented. To solve the general problem of self-occlusion we developed a multi stereo camera system to increase the information density. The required calibration is presented by using ICP algorithm and Genetic Algorithm.","PeriodicalId":397384,"journal":{"name":"2010 International Conference of Soft Computing and Pattern Recognition","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131149267","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

On the other hand, the automatic analysis of brand names can be viewed as a special case of text management, although such names are very different from classical data. They are indeed often neologisms, and cannot be easily managed by existing NLP tools. In our framework, we aim at automatically analyzing such names and at determining to which extent they are related to some concepts that are hierarchically organized. The system is based on the use of character n-grams. The targeted system is meant to help, for instance, to automatically determine whether a name sounds like being related to ecology.","PeriodicalId":397384,"journal":{"name":"2010 International Conference of Soft Computing and Pattern Recognition","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128654789","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper we present a conceptually simple and computationally efficient method for real-time human activity recognition based on simple statistical features. Such features are very cheap to compute and form a relatively low dimensional feature space in which classification can be carried out robustly. On the Weizmann dataset, the proposed method achieves encouraging recognition results with an average rate up to 97.8%. These results are in a good agreement with the literature. Further, the method achieves real-time performance, and thus can offer timing guarantees to real-time applications.","PeriodicalId":397384,"journal":{"name":"2010 International Conference of Soft Computing and Pattern Recognition","volume":"598 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132819836","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our system takes advantage of a single pan-tilt camera controllable in zoom and focus. Focus control allows to detect plans of sharpness in the scene and indirectly to compute a distance. Hence, this information can be used to gain structural information of the visual scene (to segment objects from the ground, to count the number of depth plans in the visual field…) without complex computation. This distance information is then used to control either a software or a hardware zoom to keep the size of the object invariant. The image thus created can be used by view based recognition systems. In a second time we show how by using focus points and neural networks we can improve the detection of sharpness plans in complex scenes. Finally we present a simple method to dynamically control the focus and stabilize it on the plan of sharpness of an object in the scene.","PeriodicalId":397384,"journal":{"name":"2010 International Conference of Soft Computing and Pattern Recognition","volume":"88 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132933161","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is commonly used in many official transactions as a symbol of approval and agreement between all parties involved in the specified transactions. Although many individuals can possess the same name in their birth certificates, their signature still differs from one person to another. Therefore, this study examined the degree with which a signature is considered similar and belonged to the same person. The study focused on the online signature that is represented by (x, y) coordinates. We applied Particle Swarm Optimisation (PSO) to identify the baseline feature and proceeded to verify whether two signatures are similar to each other. The result of the baseline feature was then compared to the truth baseline and PSO was shown to have 90% accuracy in detecting whether it was a straight, ascending or descending baseline. We then tested the verification algorithm on the same person and then on different persons with the results showing an 80% accuracy.","PeriodicalId":397384,"journal":{"name":"2010 International Conference of Soft Computing and Pattern Recognition","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127993285","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Among all strategies towards this goal, providing customers with a flexible search tool is a crucial issue. In this paper, we propose an approach, called TIGER, for handling such flexibility automatically. More precisely, if the search criteria of a given query to a relational table or a Web catalog are too restrictive, our approach computes a new query combining extensions of the criteria. This new query maximizes the quality of the answer, while being as close as possible to the original query. Experiments show that our approach improves the quality of queries, in the sense explained just above.","PeriodicalId":397384,"journal":{"name":"2010 International Conference of Soft Computing and Pattern Recognition","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130025491","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We present a computationally efficient real time human tracking algorithm, which can track objects inside the field of view (FOV) of a camera, re-identify objects that exit and then return in a same or in a different camera FOV. Object appearance in several cameras may be very different due to illumination conditions, camera gain, focus, focal length etc. Therefore inter-camera color calibration is important for object re-identification before applying object recognition features. We compare different existing color calibration methods and evaluate their color brightness transfer function (BTF) using Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve. We propose some modifications in cumulative brightness transfer function (CBTF) which significantly improve the objects re-identification in non-overlapping multi camera environment.","PeriodicalId":397384,"journal":{"name":"2010 International Conference of Soft Computing and Pattern Recognition","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130486794","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, because the search results rarely include its uncommon images, we can often get only its common images and cannot easily get exhaustive knowledge about its appearance (look and feel). As next steps of image searches in the Web, it is very important to discriminate between “Typical Images” and “Peculiar Images” in the approvable images, and moreover, to collect many different kinds of peculiar images as exhaustively as possible. This paper proposes a novel method to precisely retrieve peculiar images of a target object by its typical/peculiar appearance descriptions (e.g., color-names) extracted from the Web and/or its typical/peculiar image features (e.g., color-features) converted from them, as a solution to the 1st next step of image retrievals in the Web.","PeriodicalId":397384,"journal":{"name":"2010 International Conference of Soft Computing and Pattern Recognition","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129588670","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
