Relationships between the species diversity of microalgae and their quantitative characteristics (cell numbers and biomass) and abiotic factors, including hydrophysical (water temperature, transparency, and suspended matter content), meteorological (precipitation sum), and hydrochemical (water salinity, the content of nitrogen, phosphorus, and silicon inorganic compounds, dissolved oxygen, readily oxidized organic matter, and pH) ones, were analyzed in different seasons. It has been shown that the biomass of microalgae in the Kuyalnyk estuary during vegetation season from April until October 2004-2007 correlated well with water level (r = -0.69) and water salinity (r = 0.71), and also with the content of mineral phosphorus (r = 0.77). The correlation with other abiotic factors was not so significant and depended on season.","PeriodicalId":39692,"journal":{"name":"Hydrobiological Journal","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67523105","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although riparian countries recognize the benefits of cross-border rivers and enter into an agreement with countries sharing the transboundary rivers by legal rules, treaties and principles, they have done excessively riverine exploitation activities to maximize their socio-economic benefits causing the imbalance of the ecosystems and peace. International treaties, bilateral and multilateral basin, and principles are currently not enforceable enough to compel riparian countries strictly to comply with these legal rules and principles on the equitable and sustainable water coordination and development. Besides, there still exists internal conflicts among the upper and lower riparian countries on the use of transboundary river watercourses due to defective sanctions of transboundary water use. There is an urgent need to establish a specialized international water management commission designated by all nations with the utmost power to regulate human related activities concerning transboundary watercourses to govern equitable and sustainable management and development. Besides, current international law principles have to be revised to bridge the gap of disagreement and potential conflicts between the lower and upper riparian States.","PeriodicalId":39692,"journal":{"name":"Hydrobiological Journal","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135800408","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Different ways of the invasion of these alien species and their ecology were investigated: the history of their appearance in water bodies of Ukraine, the peculiarities of phytocenotic structure of their communities, production and morphometric parameters in local populations, and invasive behavior. It has been found that the studied species are capable of producing significant phytomass: Egeria densa -to 0.5 kg/m2, Pistia stratiotes - to 6 kg/m2, whereas Eichhornia crassipes - to 13 kg/m2 of net phytomass. The severity of production parameter variations within local populations is indicative of plasticity under conditions of the region of investigations, and also of the capability of the studied plants to adapt to the conditions of the secondary area of distribution.","PeriodicalId":39692,"journal":{"name":"Hydrobiological Journal","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67522609","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The performed experimental studies suggest that fish cultivation under conditions of deprivation accompanied by the deterioration in water quality results in the decrease in its fatness indices, including primarily liver and abdominal fat mass, and also in the use of energy reserves of the organism -glycogen, proteins, and lipids. The influx of fish metabolites into the water results in the deterioration in its quality, including primarily the increase in the concentration of inorganic nitrogen and phosphorus phosphates, and worsens Clarias gariepinus living conditions. Ammonium and nitrite transformation into less dangerous nitrate is registered at a sufficient level of water saturation with oxygen.","PeriodicalId":39692,"journal":{"name":"Hydrobiological Journal","volume":"718 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67522757","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
