PWS is mainly characterized by severe hypotonia with feeding difficulties in the first years of life. Global developmental delays, hyperphagia with a gradual development of morbid obesity at about three years of age. It is also recognizable by facial features, strabismus, and other musculoskeletal conditions.Many patients with PWS manifest short stature due to growth hormone deficiency. These individuals also present with hypothalamic dysfunction, leading to several endocrinopathies such as hypogonadism, hypothyroidism, central adrenal insufficiency, with reduced bone mineral density. Therefore these patients need to be closely followed by an endocrinologist throughout their lifespan.","PeriodicalId":396660,"journal":{"name":"Pediatric Care Online","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-04-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129669657","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Risk factors include preterm birth and maternal substance use during pregnancy. Because of the prevalence of this condition, primary care clinicians should develop the skills to diagnose and manage this condition in patients from age 4 years through adolescence. The 3 subtypes of ADHD are predominantly inattentive, predominantly hyperactive-impulsive, and combined inattentive and hyperactive-impulsive. No cardiac workup is necessary beyond conducting a thorough cardiac history before initiating stimulant medication. Stimulant medications are the most effective treatment of ADHD in school-aged children and adolescents.","PeriodicalId":396660,"journal":{"name":"Pediatric Care Online","volume":"2006 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129596611","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
