Currently, more and more attention is paid to the involvement of ferritin in processes other than iron metabolism. Low serum ferritin is unanimously associated with iron deficiency, while elevated serum ferritin may be a consequence of various medical conditions such as iron overload, an inflammatory process, SARS-CoV-2, organ failure, cancer, and endocrine disorders, including metabolic syndrome. We present a review of the literature on the role of ferritin in a variety of less obvious disease states in children.Copyright © 2023 Termedia Publishing House Ltd.. Material and methods: A survey aiming to identify the above factors was disseminated to mothers who had given birth in Rzeszow, Poland. In total, 143 surveys were analyzed, and a χ2 statistical analysis was used to test for significance between the variables. Results: Demographic factors did not have a significant association with the beliefs, sources of trust and information, or actions of new mothers regarding childhood vaccinations in Rzeszow. The most common vaccine adverse beliefs (VAB) concerned the vaccine schedule and whether childhood vaccines should be mandatory. The number of adverse beliefs mothers were unsure about showed no statistically significant association with the planned action of choosing to vaccinate or not. The top source of information about vaccinations was the internet, while the most trusted source for vaccine information was pediatricians/family doctors. Factors that did have a statistically significant association included beliefs about vaccines and sources of information and trust. Conclusions: Overall, the most common VAB and key sources of information and trust about vaccinations in our study population in Rzeszow are similar to previous studies done elsewhere. We also identified that some mothers who vaccinated their older children could be changing their minds amidst the growing movement of vaccine hesitancy. This highlights that it is a key time for physicians to increase education and stress the importance about childhood vaccines, and creating reputable internet sources backed by physicians could help stop the spread of vaccine hesitancy and misinformation.","PeriodicalId":39653,"journal":{"name":"Pediatria Polska","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70501713","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They are widely used in the paediatric population, mainly in the treatment of gas-troesophageal reflux disease, but also for oesophagitis, gastritis and/or duodenitis. Proton pump inhibitors use increases the pH of the stomach, which disrupts the physiological defensive barrier and may lead to the development of an abnormal microbiome in the further parts of the digestive tract, resulting in small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) and symptoms such as diarrhoea, production of gas, nonspecific abdominal pain, flatulence, lack of growth or weight loss, protein or energy malnutrition, and vitamin A, D, K and B12 deficiency. The study analyses the influence of combining PPIs with probiotics or prokinetics on the chance of SIBO developing in children. There are currently no diagnostic standards or therapeutic guidelines for children diagnosed with SIBO.","PeriodicalId":39653,"journal":{"name":"Pediatria Polska","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70502103","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Transient dissociative episodes are a common phenomenon during childhood that generally decrease during adolescence to relatively low levels in adults. There is strong evidence that traumatic events play a key role in the development of dissociation, but non-abusive and genetic factors are also considered. In the article, we discuss a few complementary theoretical models of the origin of DD that view them from attachment theory, affect theory, or developmental perspectives. Diagnosing DD among children is especially hard because of their frequent co-occurrence with other disorders, their broad differential diagnosis spectrum, and the fact that symptoms may be unnoticed for a long time. Treatment guidelines are mainly based on experts’ opinions, so appropriate studies on children are necessary.","PeriodicalId":39653,"journal":{"name":"Pediatria Polska","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70502594","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
