There are a lot of scopes to improve the properties of cutting tool materials to enhance their ability to machine challenging materials like heat resistant super alloys (HRSA). Reducing the grain size of cutting tool material powder to nano level may help to increase the strength, substrate hardness, Fracture toughness, and thermal conductivity of the cutting insert. This review studies different strategies used to develop nano powders for the cutting tool application. We observed that most of the studies focused on the latest powders used in cutting tool industries like tungsten carbide, boron carbide powders which are reduced as nano powders, pressed, and sintered with different techniques like hot isostatic pressing (HIP), Spark plasma sintering. Finally, the current research gaps and the future challenges in understanding the development of nano powders for cutting tool applications are critically discussed, providing an interpretation of the possible directions for scientific development in this field.","PeriodicalId":39575,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Mines, Metals and Fuels","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45620255","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to these issues, there is a need for biodegradable polymers to overcome these issues. This paper focussed on processing polyvinylalcohol (PVA) crosslinked with glutaraldehyde(GA) and studying the harness of crosslinked polymer. The polyvinylalcohol is crosslinked from 0 to 40 volume percent of glutaraldehyde than post cured immersed in 2 mole of Sulfuric acid (H2SO4) for 24 hours to attain complete crosslinking. The Excel Durometer Shore D Hardness tester was used to determine the hardness of PVA and PVA crosslinked GA polymer composites as per ASTM D2240 standards. The influence of glutaraldehyde crosslinking drastically improves the polymer's hardness by up to 15%, and further marginal changes are found. The Tukey HSD method is used to study the significant level and accomplish the optimum crosslinking percentage. From the Tukey HSD test, it is found that the f value more than 5.35 are high level statically significant.","PeriodicalId":39575,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Mines, Metals and Fuels","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48881877","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For effective performance of refrigeration and air conditioning system condenser design play a vital role. Experiments were conducted to study the condensation of R1234yf refrigerant inside a copper tube of 8.4 mm in diameter and 750 mm in length. The heat transfer coefficients of refrigerant were calculated against mass flux varying from 150–300 kg/m2 s, quality of refrigerant 0.3 to 0.8, and saturated temperature 30 and 500 C. The experimental heat transfer coefficients were compared to the heat transfer coefficients by the recent MM Sha correlation. The experimental results are in good agreement with an absolute mean deviation of nearly 20% with the MM Sha heat transfer coefficient.","PeriodicalId":39575,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Mines, Metals and Fuels","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47724692","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To depict the current status of the operation, a flow diagram depicting the process is drawn. Non-value actions are detected by their waste of time and resources in each step and between each phase. With the use of simulation tools, the process is examined for the possibility of dramatically reducing and simplifying it to the bare minimum of steps. The fraction of value-adding time in the overall process increases when waste is reduced, and the process throughput speed improves. This improves the effectiveness (the right things are done) and efficiency of the revised process (needing fewer resources). With the use of Arena simulation software, this study illustrates how to use corrective procedures in the die casting sector to eliminate non-value added tasks. The future state of the reengineered process is flow charted, with process stages and information flows reworked, simplified, and made less expensive, as well as increased productivity.","PeriodicalId":39575,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Mines, Metals and Fuels","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41450811","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Typical waste to value processes such as composting, briquetting, digestion are time consuming and gasification, and pyrolysis only produces energy. In the present research, a thermochemical process called as hydrothermal carbonization process is used to convert the organic wet waste to useful products. The HTC process converts the organic wet waste into coal like high carbon content material called hydrochar and the liquid component called as biocrude. The biocrude is a mixture of chemicals such as 5-HMF, Levulinic acid, Furfural and other chemicals used in pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry. Orange peel waste is processed in a HTC reactor in temperatures ranging between 180 to 220 o C, with the autogenous pressure. The calorific value of hydrochar produced is measured using bomb calorimeter, and is found to have enhancement over the feedstock. The biocrude is analysed using UV spectrometer and gas chromatography and mass spectroscopy to identify the components present. Compounds including anti-fungal, and anti-bacterial molecules are identified and reported.","PeriodicalId":39575,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Mines, Metals and Fuels","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41544629","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Researchers have been studying the manufacturing of nano-cellulose-based products and food packaging films. the evolution of environmentally friendly and ecologically balanced food packaging materials has gotten a lot of interest as a potential solution to partially replace the perishable fossil fuel-derived plastic. Nano-cellulose and so its uses have lately received considerable attention across both research and application areas due to their attractive characteristics such as exceptional mechanical properties, larger surface area, rich hydroxyl for alteration, and biological properties with 100 per cent environmental protection. It is widely produced around the world in big quantities. It is a sugar industry waste product. It is most widely employed in the paper industry, although researchers have proposed that various mechanical and chemical treatments can aid in the extraction of cellulosic fibres, pure cellulose, cellulose nano-fibers (CNF), and cellulose nano-crystals (CNC). These extracted components have a wide range of uses in the manufacturing of regenerated cellulosic fibre and composite materials. The extraction processes for these extracted components in food packaging are discussed in this review study, as well as their usual application in composite industries.","PeriodicalId":39575,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Mines, Metals and Fuels","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49080475","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

AA2024 alloy is one of the most used alloys in the aerospace as well as automobile industry. At the time of the casting of the alloy, casting defects like porosity, shrinkage, etc. are induced in the alloy. The casting defects can be minimized by optimizing the gating system or by changing the composition of the material. In the present study, the simulation of casting process for optimizing the gating system was done with help of numerical method. Three different gating system designs (i.e., Top Gating design, Bottom gating design and anti-gravity gating design) were simulated for the casting process and the results of the simulations were interpreted. The anti-gravity gating system design was found out to be the best design which exhibits casting with minimum defects.","PeriodicalId":39575,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Mines, Metals and Fuels","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48322116","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
