This has led to several business- and consumer-oriented products becoming available on the market. Over the years, both start-ups and major companies have developed fascinating and accessible devices, opening many new possibilities in various domains. The new possibilities for the training and education industry are particularly compelling. Consequently, it is no surprise that these technologies are actively being evaluated for various training contexts (Xie et al., 2021) and compared to their traditional equivalent solutions (Gross et al., 2023). Online banking, shopping, streaming, and social media, among other things, require the user to authenticate, or prove, their identity to utilize the provided service. Keeping track of a multitude of accounts becomes burdensome, and many of us turn toward the usage of weak or recycled credentials that pose a security risk. To solve these problems, long-term care institutions have become one of the solutions. In addition, dementia is the most important social problem among elderly individuals (Tsang et al., 2020). In most Asian countries, the solution to the problem of dementia in the elderly is to establish long-term care institutions, such as villages for elderly individuals and nursing homes. However, there is still the problem of companionship in an aging society. The needs of the elderly lie in companionship. This article aims at providing a panoramic view of different software tools used for simulating electrical circuits, enabling students to make an appropriate choice among various tools for a specific application. In this regard, a simple buck converter operating in the continuous conduction mode (CCM) is considered and realized using two different approaches, viz., coding and modeling using the Matrix Laboratory (MATLAB), Scientific Laboratory (Scilab), and LTspice (by Linear Technology) software tools. Symbolic object function (syms) and ordinary differential equation (ODE) solvers are used to solve coupled ODEs in MATLAB. Detailed analyses of the frequency response for constant voltage <inline-formula xmlns:mml=\"http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML\" xmlns:xlink=\"http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink\"><tex-math notation=\"LaTeX\">${(}{G}_{text{vd}}{)}$</tex-math></inline-formula> and average current operations <inline-formula xmlns:mml=\"http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML\" xmlns:xlink=\"http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink\"><tex-math notation=\"LaTeX\">${(}{G}_{text{id}}{)}$</tex-math></inline-formula> are carried out. Although Scilab is open source software, it provides the same accuracy as that of a licensed tool, such as MATLAB.
