We report on three optical temperature sensors network based on FBG gratings with different central Bragg reflection wavelength values and standard ITU-T G.652 single mode fiber (SMF). We have used amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) source as low-cost incoherent broadband light source and optical spectrum analyzer for interrogation of sensors' signals in our network model. In this paper it is shown, that it is important to evaluate FBG sensors' central Bragg reflection wavelengths and bandwidth of reflected signals, to avoid the spectral overlapping of adjacent sensors, while to be sure that each sensor is working in its assigned wavelength slot. As the spacing between FBG sensors in optical spectrum has an important role on the performance of the whole sensor network, we have investigated minimal spacing intervals for FBG temperature sensors working in temperature range from — 20°C up to +40°C under different network operation scenarios.","PeriodicalId":39469,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Engineering Education","volume":"152 1","pages":"2673-2678"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79566773","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Optimal tuning of gains of FAPID-PSS controller is considered as optimization problem. Change in speed is considered as the input and correcting voltage signal is considered as output of the proposed controller. A hybrid firefly-particle swarm optimization (FF-PSO) technique is implemented in order to improve power system stability. The problem of FAPID-PSS controller design is transformed into an optimization problem based on integral squared error. Further FF-PSO based optimization technique has been implemented for tuning of optimal gains of the proposed FAPID-PSS based controller. In order to test the robustness and performance of the proposed controller, it has been tested under various disturbances and operating conditions. Further, a comparison has been made between PSO optimized FAPID controller and FA-PSO optimized FAPID controller in a SMIB system. Effectiveness of the proposed controller was analyzed graphically as well as analytically that the proposed FFPSO tuned FAPID-PSS controller performs better than conventional controllers.","PeriodicalId":39469,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Engineering Education","volume":"1 1","pages":"1969-1976"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83639731","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The l1-norm and its reweighting form are employed and integrated into the least sum of exponentials algorithm to create desired zero attraction terms. The proposed algorithms are mathematically presented in the context of the adaptive filtering frame. The proposed algorithm is investigated for estimating a sparse system. The obtained results illustrate that the proposed sparse least sum of exponentials algorithms give better estimation performance than the classical least sum of exponentials algorithms when the system is exact sparse.","PeriodicalId":39469,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Engineering Education","volume":"1 1","pages":"266-270"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89494749","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to improve the performance of electromagnetic shielding clothing, it is a good choice to use wave absorbing materials in clothing. Therefore, in this paper, the application of absorbing materials in clothing is studied, and the neckline which has great influence on the shielding effectiveness of clothing is chosen as the subject investigated, the application and influence of the wave absorbing material on the neckline of electromagnetic shielding clothing are explored. Stainless steel fabric is selected as clothing sample material. Carbon fiber fabric, nano aluminum fabric and multi ion fabric are used as experimental materials. The experimental samples are designed and manufactured according to different ways of use and combination. The reflectivity of the material and the electromagnetic shielding effectiveness of the sample are measured by the segmental support test system and the three meter semi anechoic chamber. The results show that the application of different wave absorbing materials and usage mode at the neckline has significant influence on the shielding effectiveness of clothing, the shielding effectiveness of the clothing is best when the nano aluminum material is applied as an intermediate layer and the multi ion fabric is applied directly at the neckline, and all of them have increased by more than 5 dB.","PeriodicalId":39469,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Engineering Education","volume":"35 4 1","pages":"2667-2672"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90460472","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The behavior of optical signals in the atmospheric channel depends on the magnitude of the visibility which in turn is the most important parameter required to achieve an optimal link performance and optical signal availability at 99%. To obtain the optimal estimation of the observed visibility Probability Distribution Function (PDF), the Triweight Kernel estimator was utilized based on the three years visibility data collected from both the Time and Date Weather Services and South Africa Weather Services (SAWS). The three-parameter Log-Pearson (LP3) and three-parameter Weibull (W3) distributions confirmed their appropriateness in representing the regional visibility data, based on the statistical performance tests. Due to complexities in the computation, the distribution parameters of these two distributions were obtained using the Maximum Likelihood Estimation method. Thus, the nearness of the estimated LP3 and W3 PDFs of the visibility to the observed visibility distribution in Durban, was obtained by applying one of the highest efficiency kernel estimator for non-parametric analysis. As a result, the lowest Integral Square Error (ISE) and Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) values were obtained, and from the investigation, the optimized W3 PDF outperforms the optimized LP3 PDF in terms of the mean ISE and RMSE values for all the weather conditions considered. The mean ISE values of both the LP3 and the W3 distributions are 0.0162 and 0.0059 respectively, and their corresponding mean RMSE values are 0.0514 and 0.0343 respectively. Thus, we obtained the actual coefficients of the LP3 and W3 distributions of the VRD for the city of Durban, which is one of the main focus of this paper. This research has a uniqueness and importance for FSO applications within South Africa and can be extended to regions with similar climatic (sub-tropic) conditions. Also, according to the results, with the best choice of kernel bandwidth this approach for estimating the distribution of visibility which is rarely used for visibility distribution modeling has shown that the kernel estimates yielded a better performance over the optimized PDF approach in terms of the Mean ISE and RMSE evaluations. Finally, the study of the variations and structure of visibility classification is critical and important for FSO link planners and engineers, due to the consequences of the unpredictable nature of visibility on FSO applications.","PeriodicalId":39469,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Engineering Education","volume":"48 1","pages":"2732-2741"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76906050","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is found that the effective number of bits (ENOB) monotonically decreases with the input RF frequencies. Nevertheless, it is found that ENOB of 4 can be achieved at the Nyquist sampling rate of 50 GHz using only 10 WDM channels. The results demonstrate that the system can be simplified by employing a high repetition rate pulsed source without greatly affecting the ADC performance.","PeriodicalId":39469,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Engineering Education","volume":"119 1","pages":"2759-2764"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77946747","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The damage which we have described includes changes in the properties of the material or the geometrical properties of the system. Traditionally, common sensors are used in the SHM although significant improvements have been made on damage monitoring techniques by using advanced smart sensors, but connecting line and power supply remains a significant challenge to the practical implementation of these technologies. In the article, we propose a UHF rectangular patch antenna which is wireless and passive comparing with the traditional methods. Through good linear polarization, we can get an ideal gain which can allow a larger measurement distance. As the size of antenna changes, the resonant frequency will transform accordingly. When it is used in the SHM, a great convenience in the field can be obtained.","PeriodicalId":39469,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Engineering Education","volume":"488 1","pages":"2119-2122"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75128348","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
