This paper explores the journey of Dr. V. R. Padmanabha Rao (1953–2020), an Ayurveda clinician who not only demonstrated excellence in clinical practice but also spearheaded the creation of “Agnivesha Ayurveda Anushthana,” an exclusive organization devoted to the education and training of Ayurveda doctors. Dr. Rao played a pivotal role in influencing and guiding numerous Ayurveda graduates to transition from allopathy to Ayurvedic clinical practice. His therapeutic knowledge was disseminated in a number of national and international forums, especially with regard to his successful treatment of male infertility. Central to his teachings was the concept of “How to be a successful Ayurveda clinician,” anchored in the three pillars of dual diagnosis (integrated Ayurveda and modern methods), the utilization of self-prepared classical medicines (single-herb therapy), and the cultivation of excellent clinical and administrative skills including documentation of clinical cases.","PeriodicalId":394246,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Research in Ayurvedic Sciences","volume":"643 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141027685","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We interviewed Vaidyan’s family members and acquaintances to collect more information about his life, mission, vision, and contributions to Ayurveda. He was an orator, patriot, social reformer, and gifted physician with in-depth knowledge of Panchakarma treatment. An attempt was also made to review his book, “Panchakarmam Athava Sodhana Chikitsa” and present its key specialties. This book may be one of the earliest works in Ayurveda, following a narrative medicine approach. He provides a detailed interpretation of Panchakarma concepts and tries to narrate the efficacy of these procedures through case reports from his clinical practice. The article provides insights into his life, mission, and role in strengthening Ayurveda in Kerala during pre- and post-independence periods.","PeriodicalId":394246,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Research in Ayurvedic Sciences","volume":"88 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141050565","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Born on February 10, 1905, in Jagannathapur Sasana, Odisha, Pandit Kabiraj Dr. Ananta Tripathy Sharma’s family lineage, deeply entrenched in Ayurvedic traditions, guided him toward a career dedicated to ancient healing art. In his early years, influenced by his grandfather, Pandit Kabiraj Dr. Ananta Tripathy Sharma’s commitment to Ayurveda became the cornerstone of his professional journey. His academic pursuits began in Sanskrit and culminated in the prestigious “Sahitya Shiromani” degree in 1925. However, it was his later immersion in Ayurveda that defined the trajectory of his life. Beyond academic achievements, Pandit Kabiraj Dr. Ananta Tripathy Sharma ventured into social reform, notably challenging the prevalent practice of child marriage. His collaboration with like-minded individuals led to the formation of the Sanskaraka group, advocating against early marriage for girls. Post-independence, their efforts bore fruit, contributing to the repeal of the Sarada Act 1929. His commitment to making Ayurveda accessible led to the establishment of dispensaries in different parts of Odisha and the expansion of the “Bheshaja Mandir,” a pharmacy established by him. His foray into politics, driven by a commitment to Ayurveda, saw him elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly and later as a Member of Parliament, where he championed the cause of Ayurveda at both state and national levels. A significant chapter in his legacy unfolded with the establishment of the Kaviraj Ananta Tripathy Sharma Ayurveda College and Hospital in Brahmapur. Driven by his unwavering commitment, he overcame challenges to realize his vision and the institution stands as a living tribute to his dedication to Ayurveda. His literary pursuits included impactful books in both Sanskrit and Odia, reflecting his versatile talents. Awards and distinctions adorned his illustrious career, recognizing his expertise in Ayurveda and literature. His principles, deeply rooted in Dharma, guided his approach to healing, emphasizing the importance of treating rich and poor patients alike. In his later years, despite his poor vision, Pandit Kabiraj Dr. Ananta Tripathy Sharma persisted in translating Ayurvedic texts for the benefit of future generations.","PeriodicalId":394246,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Research in Ayurvedic Sciences","volume":"7 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141030151","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Kuṭṭikṛṣṇa Mēnōn was an eminent Ayurveda physician, an astute researcher, and an insightful and eloquent writer. He is the author of three great books on Ayurveda and myriad publications on Ayurveda and folklore. The translation of Vāgbhaṭa’s Aṣṭāṅgahṛdayam (Sūtrasthāna), the quintessence and their treatment, and the publication of “Kriyākaumudi” and “Cikitsākautukam,” can all be seen as efforts to revive Kerala’s ancient traditions. As his writings were available only in the native Malayalam language, he remained unknown to other parts of the country. He perused innumerable palm leaf manuscripts from private collections and manuscript repositories at Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode, the contents of which otherwise would have never appeared in publications. He has not received much recognition and rewards that he deserved, but his insatiable thirst for knowledge has urged him to dig deep into the treasures of Ayurveda.","PeriodicalId":394246,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Research in Ayurvedic Sciences","volume":"9 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141023539","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
