Open innovation (OI) concept is based on the knowledge in- and outflows across organisational boundaries. This study aims to discuss the link between OI and TEC. Literature review reveals a partial correlation between TEC and OI. The effort involve in identifying a set of relations between OI mechanisms and TEC dimensions in high-tech firms. A conceptual model and three scenarios have been investigated using fuzzy cognitive mapping. The scenarios deal with the effects of 'out-in', 'in-out', and coupled mechanisms of OI on TEC, respectively. Results revealed that implementing OI improves TEC, but the exploitation of 'in-out' mechanisms would leave a greater effect on technology paradigm and linkage dimensions, whereas the 'out-in' mechanism would rather affect the learning capabilities.","PeriodicalId":39334,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Technoentrepreneurship","volume":"3 1","pages":"173"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48968079","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These 'bottleneck technologies' offer potential for differentiation. Technological limits can be anticipated, if the fundamental limitations of a technology are known. This research provides an overview over the existing literature on technological limits and discusses the challenge with cases from practice. Gaps in literature and in practice are identified. Five propositions on the management of technological limits are deduced. Approaches are discussed how the knowledge about a company's technological limits can support technology planning.","PeriodicalId":39334,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Technoentrepreneurship","volume":"2 1","pages":"134"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70173144","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
